Question about HP Photosmart 8250 InkJet Printer

Photos print too redish; blues are purplish

I started using non-name brand ink cartridges. The colors were fine for a while, but now seem to always have too much red/pink/blue-ishness. Is it the quality of the ink, or some other problem?

I guess I should have added, I went back to name brand, did the 'Clean Printheads' thing, and still have the problem. Ideas?

  • cindybear4 Aug 27, 2008

Yes, it is HP (Photosmart 8250) and I replaced all the color and black cartridges with HP. Is there something else I can do to fix it?
    Thank you.

  • cindybear4 Aug 28, 2008

    Problem still not solved.

  • cindybear4 Aug 28, 2008

I did switch back to all HP cartridges, ran the printheads cleaner--still pinkish/purplish photos.

  • cindybear4 Aug 28, 2008

Sorry to be a pain, but this didn't work either! The blues come out purple, the light pinks come out magenta. Have I ruined the printer?

  • cindybear4 Sep 02, 2008

I appreciate all your suggestions. Guess I'll have to take it somewhere and have it looked at.
    Thank you!

Hi,
Its a known issue ,after using the non branded ink cartridges, The printer can cause problems.
You can check two things
1. If you are printing photos , try changing the photopaper you are using.
2. Print the Hp test page , if the test page is faulty too, its time to get a new printer .

Thanks

Check the cartridge compatibility for the appropriate product in the following places:

    • Cartridge compatibility charts for each product type:

    • In the product documentation: Look up ordering print cartridges or check the back cover of the manual that came with the product.
    • In the printer toolbox on the computer (only if HP printer drivers are installed)
    • On the cartridge package

FYI - the printheads of HP printers are actually comes with the cartridges.

If its not your computer or application, it is the printers logic board that is messing up your colors.

Try another computer / application.

You can, if you can find an identical printer to yours, test those new carts.

Yes this is the color issue as you told this not brand of the printer and the ink quality depends upon the manufacture in this case you cart have dark blend of ink which is creating this problem ,try this but you need to use the original company cart in order to get the best colour results on the print:TRy this and make print

Print the image using a higher quality setting by following the instructions below.

  1. From the application you are printing from, click Print , and then Properties . The Print Properties screen opens.
  2. Click the Paper/Quality tab.
  3. Select Maximum dpi or Best .
  4. Click OK .
  5. Good luck...

Your ink cartridges stay in the maintenance station when not in use.
Depending on the printer model, the maintenance station may be located
on the right or left side of the printer. NOTE: You do not need to remove the cover in order to access the maintenance station.

To access the wiper for cleaning purposes:

    1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

    2. Move the ink cartridge carrier to the left by gripping the top
of the rubber carrier belt and gently pulling it across towards the
      right-hand side of the printer.

    3. Take a warm, damp paper towel or napkin and gently clean the wiper on the right-hand side of the maintenance station.

Yes, because not all generic cartridges are compatible with all printers , because it will only work for a few times then after that you will start having this kind of problem, that why is not recommended to use a generic ink. if your printer is HP get a cartridges from HP also to make sure everything will be working fine....

Hope that helps........

If that's the case this can be a problem with the printhead itself thatmay needa replacemnet already since you still have this problem and all the cleaning is already been done...

    not the print heads.

    did you clean the nozzle?

that would help you a lot.
    am sure

  • dewan nafees ahmed Aug 28, 2008

    also one more thing.

while installing there will be a small piece of plastic cover over the nozzles.
we need not peel it off. but it would be better if you peel it off fully. first 2 prints will be smudging. after that you will be getting a nice print

keep us posted about the improvements.
    thank you

How can I use non-epson ink cartridges in the Epson printer?

Yes and No. Non branded ink cartridges need to be properly programed to work correctly. If you are going to buy non branded, make sure you can trust the seller. Research the seller and you should be ok. Branded is always the best but also always more expensive and non branded always comes with a degree of risk.

My lexmark x3470 wont recognise compatible ink Cartridges any know of a way round this

If the ink cartridges you purchased are not Lexmark - that could be the problem. I used to have a Lexmark printer and I did the same thing - I purchased ink cartridges that were compatible but not Lexmark brand. Everything seemed fine until I tried to print and then I would get the same error sign and low ink message and it would not print. I kept thinking I was doing something else wrong and tried everything. In the end I broke down and got ink cartridges from Lexmark and that solved the problem. Now I have a Brother printer and I never buy anything other than Brother ink cartridges because I'm always afraid of that same thing happening again. I wish I knew which printers WOULD accept those non name brand ink cartridges, but thus far I do not know of any printers that do. Hope this helps you.

R1900 adds blue-green tint to my photo prints

Epson doesn't like Generic Cartridges.

Hello, In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also in Purchasing the Brother's . Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, etc. These printers have a chip, that will detect if it is Generic or Genunie. When using Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Bad color in photos-Starts out good then goes to very bad

have you attempted printing directly on the printer via. pictbridge orthe inbuild card reader? this does sound like a problem with the printhead, or connection to it... try taking the print head out andreplacing it, it would need to be re-calibrated again when you do this, but if there is a connection issue this would most likely solve it. its possible also that the feed through for one colour of ink isslightly clogged or not drawing ink correctly (sounds like yellow)-this would mean that its not able to restock its yellow pallet quicklyenough while printing. you could attempt to clean it out yourself, orif its under warranty, see if they will replace your print head for you

Hi,

Although refill inks can be quite good, it is likely the cause. Several companies do make good refill inks for canon but they are specific to model lines and you have to be sure you get the right ones for photo colour.

The inks you're using are likely "universal" inkjet inks and are fine for everyday printing but are rarely ever colour corrected properly for photo.

My recomendation to all of my customers is always to keep a new cartridge handy for photos but to use the refilled ones whenever they are printing anything else as it will give you the best balance between print cost and print quality.

Draining the ink!

Printing photos with Epson drains the cartridges alot faster than printing documents. The dpi settings for photos are much higher to get the photo quality. Blue is a base color that helps to mix to create some of the colors in the photos so this is normal with the Epson brand. Hope this helps.

Won't print black and white, looks blue

Hi

HP uses a system for black that prints a base ie: Cyan / *blue then overprints it with black...

Sounds like you are either out of black or you have an ink clog?

If so... you need to use a print head cleaner like Magic Inkjet Flush you can get a kit on Ebay.

Good Luck!
