Make sure that your firewall program is shut down before installing the programs. I have hp program on mine and after I shut down my firewall it went through. Try downloading the latest software from www.hp.com

Allow it to install. If it works your done, if not the disc isn't the problem. If that is the case respond back here with any error messages that show up and I will take a little deaper look into the problem

Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

Are you using a CD? Do other disks work? Or is it just that disk that gives that error? If CD is a problem, I would try to get another copy, if that is not possible... I have used cd fixer machines before, they have worked well for me in the past.
