Hi, protection mode means either the speaker terminals are shorted or the unit is overheated the manul says fix the short (DOH!) or unblock the vents (DOH!) but if it is really an issue with the microprocessor, then unplug the unit, hold in power and the tape loop buttons at same time and plug back in, wait 15 seconds or so until the display flases about once a second and then release both buttons. I will doublecheck these are the correct buttons, but I am pretty sure (I have the manual)

This normally implies a functional issue with the machine. Try an error reset first in case the unit was turned on\off or lost power recently: To reset the error, execute the following in service mode: COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR. If that doesn't work you will need to test some components - are you a repair tech or have electronic experience if not you might want to contact a service center to avoid hurting the copier or yourself. If you do have experience take a look at page 6-10P http://diagramasde.com/diagramas/otros2/IR2200_2.PDF and Error Codes Canon iR2200 Warning!
If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair!
There is a risk of fatal electrical shock! Instead, contact the nearest service center!

Tip

What "Protector" means

Quite often a receiver or amplifier will show the message "protection" or "protector". Other times, the unit will return to the standby mode and possibly blink the standby light. This is a protective mode that causes the shutdown of the unit to "protect" it from further damage.

Most modern electronics contain additional circuits that monitor the state of the unit. If a problem is detected, the unit is shutdown and a message of some type is displayed as detailed above. This is done to prevent further damage to either the unit itself or any external speakers or equipment.

Lets determine whether the problem is internal or external:
1) Disconnect any external equipment (speakers are the most common).
2) Power off the unit.
3) Turn it on again (this will reset the protection circuit)

If the protection message clears, the external equipment is the likely cause. Crossed speaker wires is the most common cause. If the unit continues to display the protection message, then the problem is internal and the unit will require service.

The most common internal cause is a failure of the output transistors. These can be easily replaces by an experienced service tech. Some units have complete amplifier sections contained within amp-pacs or large ICs often called STKs. They are so called because the generic part numbers for tehm are often STK-xxx. Panasonic uses large ICs with part numbers that start with SVI as well. If you are experienced with audio repair, a simple check of the transistors and the voltage regulators within the same circuit can often reveal teh cause of the problems.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Fix e 15 error code on electrolux induction range model ew 30is6cjs have turned off barker to allow for reset. still get error code

Good Morning friend, thanks for your post!
I see your Electrolux range is displaying "E15" error code and you have reset your appliance but continue to receive the message. An "E15" error code stands for ESEC (Electronic Surface Element Control) self-test failed which could be a possible issue with your relay board or UIB (User Interface Board). I suggest seeking assistance from a technician to properly diagnose and repair your appliance to avoid any unnecessary part purchases. -Matt

My sony str-de335 receiver is in protect mode whats wrong what should i do?

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

I am facing a problem with a SONY amplifier, model STR-DE185. On its screen is written the word ''PROTECT''. I have checked the transistors MN 2488 and MP1620 and are OK. Could anyone tell me what else...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the displayed message "PROTECT" is as it implies, the STR-DE185 has gone into auto-protect mode. The built-in auto diagnostics has sensed a fault and kicked in to prevent further damage to the Sony unit. In most instances, this is brought about by a faulty speaker (should be 8~16 ohms), loose/disconnected speaker wiring, strands of speaker wires inadvertently touching its opposite, overheated, ventilation holes covered, played with the volume level high for an extended period of time or a localized fault in the internal electronics of the amp circuitry.

Offhand, since DIY (do-it-yourself) repair is being done and assuming that you are comfortable working with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe practices with electrically powered devices, access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be a necessity.
  1. consider doing a RESET. Turn off the STR-DE185, press and hold the POWER button for 5 seconds or more or till "INITIAL" message is displayed. This would force the Sony to revert to factory defaults removing any glitches, errors in settings & configurations, presets, memories and user preferences;
  2. check if relays RY781 - to 783 are engaging;
  3. check pin 8 of IC901 (should be 5.6V);
  4. check protect switch Q784 to 786;
  5. check overload detectors Q705 & Q706;
  6. check that the MN2488 and MP1620 are not leaky

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Hi, I have this error SC-545 on a DSm622. How to fix it? What is this error ?

this error is the fuser thermistors and thermofuses.
they need to be replaced and quite possibly the hot roller and cleaning roller also.
your best bet is to have a ricoh service tech come and repair the unit as once the parts have been replaced the tech has to clear the code by entering protected service mode.
the part numbers for the thermistors are
aw100052 and aw100053

good luck

Error message on screen E000001-0002

E000001-0002 refers to the fuser assy either getting to hot or not hot enough. Fuser error codes cannot be reset by power cycling the machine even though that is what the display tells you to do. In order to reset the fuser error code you must enter the service mode & reset the code. To enter the service mode: press"Additional Functions" button (looks like a picture of a head with a star inside) press the #2 and #8 at the same time (simultaneousley) press "additional functions" again The display should show a choice of copier,feeder,sorter,fax,or board service modes Select copier select clear select ERR press OK Turn power off & back on. ****IMPORTANT**** After clearing error stay at the machine to see if it comes to ready. The fuser assy can reach 139 degrees C.(Water boils @ 100C) The error can only be cleared through the service mode because a technician should inspect the fuser to verify there is nothing faulty that could possibly start a fire. If you enter the service mode & clear the error, power cycle the machine & during warm up the machine throws a code again- turn it off, unplug it & call a tech for fuser repair. Good Luck!! I can be reached @ bspier@carlsonsupplies.com if you have any questions.
