Question about Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Notebook

1 Answer

Memory upgrade My Toshiba A2-S207 has its orginal memory config, with two slots occupied by 256Mb PC-2100 modules. What is the best option for memory upgrade ? Can I just add one 1Gb module to one slot ? Can the system really support 2 x 1Gb modules as claimed by some vendors ?

It looks like the A25 will only hold 1g of PC2100, which is really plenty, unless you're a serious gamer or into graphic arts and need an extreme high definition video. Here's a link to the memory configurator that I use in order to find the proper memory, max held, and the chipset. You might double check to be sure I looked up the right machine. If it is the right machine, I suggest two 512mb chips. Sometimes you can't run one 1g chip because the slots are designed to only hold a certain amount, and if they will hold the 1g chip, sometime the machine doesn't run properly. It wants to use both slots accordingly, running only one creates conflicts. This should help in boosting your RAM.

I can't locate were you install the memory modules

You can purchase 1GB ram sticks for them...need to shop around.

Access the ram slots by switching laptop off / remove battery / depress on / off switch several X to de-enrgise system. Turn laptop upside down and remove one of the small panels...be carefull you do not lose screws. Very carefully unclip ram stick / lift up and out.

Adding memory to a a75-s211

How much memory did it have before you removed the 256Mb RAM?
If it had 756Mb RAM then the memory in the laptop has 512 Mb plus 256 Mb RAM modules, the 256Mb in the slot you can see and possibly 512Mb in a slot under the keyboard or soldered on the motherboard.
Therefore by removing the 256Mb and replacing with 1Gb memory module will give you a total of 1.5Gb

Memory Upgrade problem

You have the correct memory, however, did you replace memory in both available slots with same capacity/clockspeed sticks? The below is from the Spec sheet for your computer.

512MB(min)/2048MB (max), 2 memory slots using 256MB, 512MB, 1024MB or 2048MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM,
dualchannel support requires two memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed

Memory upgrade

The M45-S169 only has one available memory slot.
(I'm confused about your post that states "M45-S265" in the head line).

  • Configured with 512MB DDR SDRAM (both memory slots may be occupied)
  • 512MB(min)/2048MB (max), 256MB on-board memory with 1 available memory slot for 256MB, 512MB, or 1024MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM memory modules
You can find the complete specifications here.

Memory

It has two memory modules. the other one is under the keyboard and is actually pretty easy to get to. the plastic piece with the power button in it pops off when you put the screen all the way back. then just unscrew the 3 screws you see under there and your keyboard flips up. presto there is your other memory chip.
