Question about Dell E177FP LCD Monitor
I've had this Dell E177FP monitor since November 2006, and it has been OK until lately. The last few weeks, I've had intermittent trouble getting it to turn on and off when pressing the power button....the initial 'casual' pressing of the button would not work, but the second more forceful/intentional pressing would turn the monitor on or off. Yesterday, I had much more difficulty turning the monitor on; I think it took 5 attempts to turn it on. When I tried to turn it off, after the 5th try I had a thought that maybe I should leave it on, that if I did get it to turn off, I would never be able to turn it on again. I suppose I could just leave it on, but won't that result in other problems or damage over the long haul?
Any help you can offer on what to do about this would be greatly appreciated.
The power switch on an LCD monitor is only a power saver, it does not switch it off completely. There is no reason why you cannot use the mains switch to turn the monitor on and off - assuming that it was on in the first place!
Most LCD monitors have a 3 year warrantly - at least they do in the UK. Why not contact Dell and get them to replace it for you. You should do this before the 3 years are up.
