I guess not. Drivers for compaq presario 5000/8000, are not the same as those for a compaq presario 2175us laptop. Now, actually that "notebook" looks to me rather outdated. You won't lose anything by trying. Worst case, format hard drive and install Windows XP SP3. Try to search internet for missing drivers.
You may have some malfunctioning hardware. When the computer boots up and you see the compaq screen, you should be able to perform hardware diagnostics by pressing one of the F keys. Look in the bottom right hand corner. My guess is going to be malfunctioning hard drive, especially since the computer is a bit "older" and age is rough on laptop hard drives.
