Re: When should I use a DVD-R / DVD-RAM / DVD-RW?

Write Once – After finalizing, a DVD-R disc can be played back in approx. 95% of home DVD players and PC DVD drives Capacity – 30-60 minutes (depending on the selected filming mode) of high quality motion video can be stored on a single of a disc. Re-writeable – DVD-RAM allows for recording and re-recording of movies and still photos up to 100,000 times per disc. DVD-RAM is like a removable hard drive. Compatibility for video playback of DVD-RAM in standard home DVD players is fairly low. DVD-RW cannot store true .jpeg digital still photo’s like DVD-RAM, however it is re-writable and has 80% compatibility with home DVD players.

How do I find the delete option on my hitachi camcorder?

Hi! The solution to your problem is Three fold.

First make sure that your Camcorder is in the Disc Navigation mode to be able delete your required scene. When the camcorder is in the play back mode the delete scene won't appear.

The second situation is to check if your scene is not locked because if it is locked you are not able to delete it.
Supposing that your scene is not locked then check what type of DVD disc you have. The discs labelled DVD Ram, DVD+RW, and the Card can be deleted. The DVD-RW can be deleted only when in VR mode and not the VF mode. Other types of discs like the DVD R can not be deleted.

Another way of deleting a scene after it has been recorded on a disc that's not deletable is to transfer the recorded scene to a computer disc and then edit it off.

What discs do i use in my cannon dc210?

You can use any type of mini dvd's aside from discs that are labelled as RAM discs. As well you won't be able to use anything branded by Sony, any other form of generic disc will work in your camcorder, you might have to format the disc before use but the camcorder will let you know when you power on your device after inserting the disc.
The following formats will work though +R, -R, +RW, -RW.

DONE SOME RESEARCH ON YOUR PROBLEM AND I THINK IT CAN BE SOLVED BY DOING THE FOLLOWING. SWITCH FROM THE PRESENT DVD-R FORMAT DISC TO EITHER DVD-RW OR THE BEST BET FOR YOUR CAMERA AND FOR VIDEO IS DVD-RAM FORMAT. THE DVD-RAM IS A HIGH CAPACITY FORMAT, UP TO 5.2 GIG AND A RANDOM ACCESS DISC, WHICH MEANS YOU CAN FIND THINGS MUCH FASTER! I THINK THIS SHOULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. Problem with HD writer 2.0E

The reason for this error is that there is a conflict between HD Writer and other software on your computer. I was trying to find a solution for weeks before Panasonic advised me to remove other DVD burning software on my computer. I therefore removed Pinnacle and DVD decrypter (which I believe was causing the problem), reinstalled HD Writer and then everything worked fine. Note however that the DVD-RW discs I had tried to use before were corrupted and couldn't be reformatted and therefore once you have removed the other software and reinstalled HD Writer, start again with new DVD-RW discs. Good Luck.

Error code 0280

usually this means the disc type you're using is not compatible. the older camcorders only supported DVD-R and DVD-RAM. If you're using DVD+R/RW or DVD-RW it will cause this issue.

Do I HAVE to use Maxell dvd-r

Provided you check that what you are buying is DVD-R or DVD-RW (as opposed to +R or +RW), it should work. Best thing is probably to buy one or two and see how you get on. There's not many places make DVDs - and an awful lot of badge engineering goes on. You could download a useful bit of freeware from http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ to help you find out which factory your Maxell discs have come from - and which of your cheap alternatives actually hail from the same stable.
