Re: sanyo DP42746 Plasma
If it just fails to turn on, the
main power supply isprobablyat
fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments,
you will not be able to do the repair yourself. What you can do though is; unplug the set, let it
stand overnight or at least several hours, remove the back panel and look for a
separate board with mostly larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core
transformer on it and several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and
mounted vertically to the board. Before touching anything inside,
especially on that board, allow several hours to be safe since the larger
capacitors can hold a painful voltage charge for some hours. If you see signs of overheating
such as discoloration of the board material, it may not be repairable but if
you can find a part number on the board, you might be able to buy the power
supply and install it yourself. If there are no signs of heat
damage to the board, there may be companies offering to repair it as a
subassembly instead of repairing the whole set which could be much more
expensive. If you choose to replace or have it done, the power supplystillmay not be at fault since most
are capable of switching on and off if a downstream problem is causing an

please never purchase anything with the name sanyo on it again my tv does the same thing now i spent 1500 dollars to have to buy another, should have put that money on a new sony!!!!!!!!! never again i'll tell everyone about these pieces of ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Call Sanyo. The 800 number is on your remote. Insist on talking to a supervisor and you may get somewhere. I had to do this and Sanyo called today to tell me to take my tv to the shop. They are paying for parts and I have to pay labor to get it fixed. Repair shop said $35.00 to look at the set and if it's just to boards that need to be replaced, it wouldn't be too expensive. We'll see.
Sanyo told me they haven't gotten many complaints on this tv, DP42746, 42" Plasma. You guys have to call them and complain.
Ok Fellas I found the Problem! The Problem is the V4 Y-Main Board.
This board is located on the left side of the case looking upright from
the back. I spoke with may suppliers, and Sanyo all confirming this.
Apparently it has been an issue for some time. Sanyo has replaced the
V4 Y Main board with a W1 Y main board in newer models. The W1 Board is
NOT compatible for us tho. Just to be sure... If your T.V is taken
apart (like mine) Disconnect the peripheral cable from the V4 Y Main,
and turn on the set. I bet it will power up with audio and channel
function just NO picture. When you plug the board back in... POOF set
shuts down. Replacement boards are VERY hard to come by. So Happy

Oh yeah.. just FYI, Sanyo, Phillips, and Samsung all use the same parts. Hopefully that will help your searching.
