I have a casio E100 and would like to find a program to view excel files. Does anyone know if it is at all possible and if so how?

Yes there certainly is.
Get SpreadCe programme from ByeDesign. It can handle .xls files upto & including Office 2K in native format. Have no experience with Office XP.
As a matter of fact I find it better than Pocket Excel included in CE 3.0 and later.
I store my files under My Documents folder on the CF card using a USB card reader/writer.
