I assume your existing computer is connected to the Internet with a LAN cable to your DSL or cable modem. In this case just move the LAN cable from your desktop computer and connect it to the LAN port on your laptop.
If this is not the case then you need to supply me with details of your Internet setup and the hardware configuration of your laptop including the make and model.

It's not clear what exactly you mean. Generally, you don't connect two computers together using a USB cord. You can use a "cross-over ethernet cable" to connect the network jack of one computer to another computer. This allows transferring files and/or sharing an internet connection. If you have a wireless router you can enable Windows "File and Printer Sharing" on each computer and transfer files that way. Please provide more details of what you're trying to accomplish by connecting the computers together with a USB cable, and we may be able to give you a more specific answer.

I cant connect my xbox live using a cable connection from my xbox to laptop how do i get the connction

That would actually be a "Line" connection. Or "Link". You will have to use a cat5 cord, and connect it to your internet source. (NOTE) just because logic says you can connect a laptop or pc to your Xbox360, simply because they use the same cords, doesn't mean it works that way. You can however use your laptop as a "Media server" in direct connection. This only allows you to transfer music and movies from your laptop to the 360. Not an internet pass through. Sorry.

Can eee asus 1008HA laptops use a prepaid 'stick' for internet connection?

The USB wireless stick uses the cell phone network for wireless Internet connection provided it is within that ISP cell phone coverage area.
I doubt you can use a 2nd hand USB wireless stick unless the service is transferred to you. It is best you organise your own Internet connection with a ISP of your choice.
Laptop battery are removable and can be replaced when they are worn out, BUT the BIOS battery is inside the laptop and this can be changes but requires getting access to the insides of the laptop.

After i installed an antivirus i cannot connect to an internet with my broadband stick but when i disconnect and transfer to another pc my

Your problem is your antivirus, because as you mention it happens after installing antivirus. Try uninstall the antivirus and try to connect to the internet. If connected probably there is a settings which block the internet by your antivirus. You have to check each settings where is really the cause why after installing your antivirus you can not connect to the internet. Or try to install different antivirus and check the internet connection. Have a nice day!

Can I download drivers onto a flash drive and transfer it onto a laptop with no internet connection?

Yes, that is possible and in fact the best solution. Just make sure that you have anti-virus on both laptop to make sure that you will not transfer virus/worms together with the drivers. If you don't have anti-virus yet, burn the files to CD and use that to transfer files between the 2 laptops.

How do I do file transfers from one wireless laptop on a westell 6100 dsl model to another wireless laptop on the same modem. Neither laptop in connected to the modem via eithernet. how would I set this...

Hi There.. Please follow te below steps..

1) Connect your old computer to the wireless network. Nowadays most people use the internet through a wireless network. So basically, if you have wireless internet and you are able to get on the internet... that means you are connected.

2) Go into the networks settings. This is usually as simple as right clicking the network's icon and then clicking properties. What you want to do is turn on, "file and printer sharing" within the network

3) Now, go to the folders/data that you want to transfer. Right click or get into the properties of that folder. Check the box that says "share this folder with network".

4) On the new computer, connect to the wireless network. Under control panel or possibly the start menu, there should be an option for "My Network Places" or "My Network". In this folder you should find the data that you chose to share from your old computer. You can simply copy/paste or drag/drop the files to your new computer.

Now you are offset to transfer the files from one laptop to another...
