Question about Westinghouse Fans

1 Answer

Westinghouse ceiling fan

My ceiling fan has recently slowed when it is turned on. It will start to rotate on it's own, but does not go the normal 3 speeds. I read that it may need to be oiled, or it could be the motor. The only problem is that I don't know how to check if it is a fan that needs oil. The fan was already installed by the previous owners of the house.

Try "oiling the fan" and also if that doesn't work, change the fan.

While the ceiling fan spin faster than before now turns to slow

Possible that the main capacitor has gone weak or reduced in value. If so the speed will be lower as the capacitor activates the starting coil to move faster.
So check by connecting a capacitor in parallel.

Most likely the run capacitor has failed. Being 3 years old, I would not suspect the bearings.
