You need to connect the speakers to the green jack in your PC.
Check your system sound volume setting to make sure it's not set to MUTE or the volume slider is on or near the lowest position - you don't specify what system you have on the PC so I can't give you an exact pointer but Volume Control generally is found under Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment.

MCICCONE, we're going to need a little more info about the vacuum before we can answer this. First off, what is it you're trying to thread? I don't know of any vac's that have any parts that require being threaded anywhere. If it's a sewing machine, then that's a different story.,
