Question about Olympus Camedia C-4040 Zoom Digital Camera

Ttakes longer and longer to transition from one photo to the next...

I have noticed that my camera (Camedia C-4040z)takes longer and longer to transition from one photo to the next... ie.. I am often missing getting a second shot of something as it is still 'writing' it to the media card. Sometimes formatting the card or fresh batteries seems to help but other times it doesn't.. Is this a common problem and is there a 'cure'?

Get a set of rechargeable batteries and a charger, and that will probably solve you problem. Digital cameras draw a lot of power and alkaline batteries have to struggle to provide the power in sufficient quanity. The rechargeable NiMH batteries can supply large amounts of power when necessary and a charge will last about 3 times as long as alkaline batteries. They do discharge slowly if the camera is not used for a long period of time.

The only two things you can do to/for a digital camera is change batteries and change memory card. If your rechargeable batteries have been in use for a long time, they may be dying. You could try new rechargeable batteries. Your camera uses Smart Media which was never particularly fast. It too could be dying. Try a new memory card. If you are shooting in TIFF format, that could explain the lengthened time between shots.

I would suggest trying Google's Picasa software. It's free and easy to use. You could also simply drag and drop your pictures from your camera in Windows Explorer. You shouldn't actually need any extra software to do the transfer.

My Olympus Camedia D-540 Zoom sometimes battery registered as full and I go to take photo then message battery empty. Can anything be done?

Try using "fully charged" NiMH batteries. If you still experiencing "low battery", you may have a "leak". Your next option is the service center.

i checked your model and it uses a smartmedia memory card-hard to find nowadays-max size is 128mb's-you can find them still on internet-maybe time to upgrade camera before you spend too much on obsolete card-won't work in new camera-good luck!

I just spoke to Olympus Tech Support.

You have to download Olympus Master 2. (Their program is no longer called Camedia Master.)

At their main site, search for olympus master 2.

Olympus Camedia C-4000 Flash Problems.. Help Please!

The flash is malfunctioning and causing the camera to not work, the flashing lights in the viewfinder is the camera indicating the malfunction. Most likely it is a board that needs repair and that'll cost a flat rate minimum $160 from OLY.

Red eye

Open your camera as if you were going to take a photo, if you look at the 4 arrows, you'll see one next to it with a lightening bolt next to it. If you press it twice a little symbol should come up which looks like an eye and this is the setting to get rid of 'red-eye'. This button controls the falsh, click it once for auto, twice for red eye, 3 times for flash on and 4 times for flash off :) Hope that helps

LONG warm-up time before ready to shoot

I found that a large memory card will make the "warm up" time longer. If you use a smaller memory card, this will not be the case.

Bright pixels?

Just a thought: doesn't the C-4040Z have pixel mapping for just this eventuality? Run that, and the stuck pixel cluster should disappear. Of course, whether you should * have* to use the facility straight away is a matter of personal opinion..., but at least there is something you can do about it. Use caution though, as presumably you can't get the stuck pixels back afterwards to use as your reason for returning the camera.
