You can try replacing the power supply, but if it wasn't plugged into a UPS it is likely that the motherboard is fried.

How do I remove the harddrive from the HP Slimline S3100n?

Shut down the power to your HP Slimline computer.

Remove any memory cards or other devices from the desktop.

Disconnect the power cord and peripheral devices from the computer.

Lay the computer flat on your work surface.

Remove the three screws on the rear of the computer cover with a Phillips screwdriver.

Slide the cover toward the back of the computer then lift it off the tower.

Set the cover aside.

Raise the wire latch in front of the hard drive mounting area.

Pull the cables straight out of the connections to disconnect them from the hard drive. Unscrew the retaining screw in the side of the mounting tray with a Phillips screwdriver.

Grab the tab on the hard drive tray and slide it back out of the mounting area. Remove the screws that secure the hard drive to the tray with a Phillips screwdriver.

There are four screws, one on each corner.

Slide the hard drive out of the tray.

I need replacement psu for acer aspire x1700 slimline tower

to be honest, the X1700 is a weak computer, you should NEVER buy slimline desktops, the power supply is going to cost more than the computer, being that it is a special type, you cant just buy it in a store, having to replace some myself, i can tell you that a decent used PC is around $150, and you can still put some of the hardware from the slimline into the used PC such as the hard drive, cd drive, and memory. Best of all, a full sized unit can be fixed relatively easily and for a lot less since most parts are interchangeable

Computer will not boot or anything

Does it have power? Have you tried hitting the F8 KEY repeatedly after the initial windows screen starts? Do any of the pc's lights come on (hard drive usage, lan, cap lock, num lock, etc)? If you have absolutely no power try another outlet, if your connected to a surge protector see if the surge protector reset has tripped (found on medium to expensive protectors - if you hve a inexpensive one you probably wont have a a reset on it) try to plug something else into the outlet like a lamp, if you have no power check your household circuit protector and reset the fuse, but of course be leery. If something tripped the circuit something isnt right, indicating a power surge. Storms in your area or construction nearby?

Slimline S3100N PC Desktop is over heating?

Is your power supply fan working? If not, the supply will certainly get hot. If the fan is dirty, that will also cause overheating. If you haven't cleaned out the tower in awhile, you might want to blow it out, and also make sure the cpu fan isn't clogged (google how to clean them safely, without damaging them). You might also have a slightly shorted motor in your power supply, if it's not dirty or clogged up, but those are the main things that heat up in a desktop. If you open it up and let it run, you should be able to locate where the heat's coming from.

I put in a newer and larger power supply and it works alot better.

The power supply is located on the top of your compter tower. You should have a large power cord plugged in to it from the wall. When you open the computer case, it will be at the top and have a bunch of wires running out of it and running to the different drives and motheroard. Removing the power supply is easy. Just remove the wires from the drives and boards and remove the 4 screws to the case and out it comes. I have 450W ATA power supply on my machine and it runs a dual-core and 2 DVD and 250 gb hard drives with out any problems. Most computer stores sell power supplies and offer install if you need it. I live in Canada and I find most power supplies run about $85.00 Remeber more power = more money. You can change the powere supply in about 30 mins and don't rush. Remeber to ground yourself to the computer case and unplug the tower before openning it.
