The switch (between both thermostat dials) only switches the central heating on when it's in the down position. When the switch is up the CH is switched off. Water is heated in both positions.
I use the switch as a CH on/off switch.

LOL just noticed the date it was posted...sigh..

I turn on the power switch and the blower turns on and stays on. I can get the pilot light to stay on but the burners will not light even after I turn the RED gas valve to ON. There is no thermostat...

Hello Skyhalliday,

I understand that you are having a problem with you central heat/air. You do not have a thermostat installed and have the red and yellow crossed in order to make the unit run.

The wires you have crossed are not to the heat if they are to the common color code. Here is the color code for HVAC units:
Thermostat / Wire / what is controlled
W / White / Heat gas valve or heat elements
Rc(Rh) / Red / 24 volts transformer
G / Green / Fan
Y / Yellow / Air Conditioner Outside unit
C / Blue or Black / Common (energizes thermostats that do not have batteries)

You may not have the proper wires shorted in order to have the burners engage.

Central heating system boiling

more information required but if the boiler supplies the domestic hot water cylinder then the stat on the cylinder may be bringing on the boiler also the boiler stat may be up too high try turning it down.

Bosch greenstar 30 CDi - no central heating or hot water!

it sounds like the system was not cleaned properly when the new boiler was fitted. all new boilers need to have the pipework flushed to remove any debris scale sludge and flux from the system. this is now usually done by a power flush which is basically a big pump mounted on a big bucket and it washes the dirt out of the pipework and collects in the bucket. if this is not done the dirt will block up the small passages in the heat exchanger. i suggest the system is cleaned flush and the heat exchanger changed to help protect the boiler a filter should be fitted (for example a magna clean) if the company who installed the boiler is corgi registered then they are liable for the damages. call corgi for advice.

Central haeting ok but no hot water

If the valve runs at other times, the valve is OK. you have a relay somewhere that is not sending signal to the valve when in that mode.

Trace down all the relays for that cycle and check voltage going int, coming out, and to see if the coil is enrgised.

Boiler bangs when hot water used

You need to install a "water hammer arrestor" they can be found at any local plumbing supply house.

If you can find one with "Shark bite" fittings already installed then there will be no need for soldering or special tools other than a tubing cutter.

Ariston micro genus combi boiler central heating works okay but domestic hotwater fails to rise but burners seem to be lit and the boiler doesnt appear to cycle dhw temp gets to about 30 degrees instead of...

having found a circuit diagram, realised that the divertor valve was electrically operated.i unplugged this then unclipped the motor from the valve body, the diverter valve is spring loaded and once i'd removed the motor the spring raised the valve to divert water through the dhw heat exchanger, giving us hot water but no heating, if i refit the motor the problem comes back heating no dhw.ordered new motorised valve assembly £30 next day order .
this was a simple fix without having to drain the system down.

Vaillant boiler (VCW GB 221) not heating up water or heating although the pilot is lit. Pump is heard working okay but there is small drips of water underneath boiler. Any idea's?

The movement of the diverter valve is critical on this appliance, and is located on rear right of the boiler, when hot water is turned on, theres are two microswitches, which must break (they both close in Central heating mode), if pump is running, it is recognising the hot water demand, check microswitches are breaking, if not, it tends to be a defective servo valve (located above the water valve), or a blocked/ restricted control line (small copper tubes which connect into the servo valve)
