Ac unit

If the panel remains inoperable to control the buttons, you can just use the air conditioner remote to operate the air conditioner. The unit will still read the remote settings and allow you to operate it without a new panel or temperature sensor. The error code will still appear, but the air conditioner will function normally. 6_15_2013_8_05_15_pm.png

How serious is an e3 system error message on a carrier thermidastat control? the homeowner's manual says it means there is a problem with the outdoor temperature control reading.

Its more of a nusance. The temperature probe is not reading of has a broken wire. its two wires and reads the outdoor temperature. Its usually at the bottom of the electrical compartment or underneath the unit. Its a $20 part and you should be able to get it at heatcoolparts.com. It you have dual source system it tells the system when to switch from heat pump to the furnace. I believe you can jumper it out with a 10K ohm resistor to have the furnace run instead of the heat pump.

Touch pad on

It is more than likely the touch pad that is faulty. I have installed many bonaires, and the only thing to go wrong at that age is the touch pad, or the problem is in the control box in the airconditioner.

The touch pad comes off quite easily by placing something flat behind the pannel and leavering it off gently. The touchpad has two pieces, the front, which you see, and the mounting bracket. The bracket is almost as big as the front pannel, so you only have approx 2-3mm of plastic edge to lever, so be careful not to hook onto the mounting bracket as well.

Once you have removed the front, you can then unplug the lead coming from the touch pad (be sure to turn the control box off in the airconditioner before removing this wire, there is a switch on the side of the control box (yes, you have to get on the roof, sorry)). Take the touch pad to your local retailer that sells Bonaire units and see if that is the problem.
