Pickup roller How do I get inside the printer to change the pickup roller?

First you need to get the Blue perspex cover off the Lid by pulling it from the rear. After juggling it off the cover needs to be removed from the base by bending it outwards to release it from its catches. when the outer case is removed from the base you will then need to release the PCB from the base (leave it sitting on the base) to allow you to remove the card hopper, this unclips from the bottom edge.
you now have access to the Pick Roller. You will need a long T12 (Torx Screwdiver) to remove the 2 x screws which hold the Pick Motor in. When the Pick Motor has been released you can replace the Pick Roller (ensure the roller is the correct way round)

What are the causes of jaming

Jams are most commonly caused by worn rollers in the paper pickup area. One roller is in the tray and there are two rollers in the body of the printer above the tray. The blue rollers are the feed and separation rollers, the while body roller is the pickup. You can try cleaning them with a damp cloth but depending on page count they might be too worn. Part numbers are Pickup roller RM1-0036 and feed/separation rollers are RM1-0037. If the printer makes a lot of noise when printing then it is possible that the fuser drive is worn and causing slipping.

How do i clean the rollers on my printer?

Paper Tray Rollers Step 1 Turn off and unplug your HP printer. Pull out your printer's paper tray and locate the printer rollers on the paper tray. Each roller is gray or black, and they are made of rubber. Remove the rollers from the tray.
On HP inkjet printers, the printer roller is not on the paper tray; it is on the area inside of the printer where the paper tray slides into the unit. Remove the paper tray and sit your HP inkjet printer upright, so the paper tray area is facing upward, and then look for the printer roller.
Step 2
Pour 1 tbsp. of isopropyl alcohol or clean water onto a lint-free cloth and scrub the paper or internal tray rollers with the cloth. Fold the cloth in half and repeat the cleaning process until the rollers are free of dust and debris.

Step 3
Wipe the rollers with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any remaining dust or debris. Let the rollers dry completely before sliding the paper tray back into your printer.
Internal Pickup Roller - Laser Printers Only Step 1 Turn off and unplug your HP printer. Open your printer's front door and pull the printer's toner cartridge toward you to remove it from the printer.
Step 2
Locate your printer's internal pickup roller. The roller is gray or black, and it is made of rubber. Lift the roller upward, towards the front of your printer. Pull the roller gently out of the printer and lay it on a clean surface, such as a desk or workbench.
Step 3
Pour 1 tbsp. of isopropyl alcohol or clean water onto a lint-free cloth and scrub the pickup roller with the cloth. Fold the cloth in half and repeat the cleaning process until the roller is free of dust and debris.
Step 4
Wipe the roller with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any remaining dust or debris. Let the roller dry completely before snapping the pickup roller back into place inside of your HP printer. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close your printer's door.

No paper pickup, Press check

1. Push the paper far inside / use the priority tray.
2. Check for deterioration of the rubber on the main pickup roller (Replace if needed).
3. Ensure that the main paper pickup roller (view inside the printer from the priority input slot - use a torchlight) is rotating when print command is given / 'check' button is pressed after the error message.
4. The printer will make three attempts, one after the other, to pickup the paper (you should be able to hear the sound of main motor and gear train rotating - if no sound is heard the main motor / gear train is bad).
5. If the paper pickup roller does not rotate - a component in the gear train needs attention / replacement.
6. The gear train is behind the formatter inside the right side cover.
7. Service manual can be downloaded free on the net.

Tis can't pickup the paper and its making noise

If your printer can not pick up the paper then you need to change the pickup roller and separation pad. You need to get the preventative maintenance kit RK-1320, this has the roller, pad and transfer roller. It is available:

Cleaning the pickup roller
If you want to clean the pickup roller rather than replace it, use the following instructions.
Remove the pickup roller as described below.

1 Turn off the printer, unplug and remove the power cord. Wait for the printer to cool.
2 Open the print-cartridge door, and remove the print cartridge (HP LJ 1010 series printer shown).
3 Locate the pickup roller
4 Gently release the small, white tabs on each side of the pickup roller by pushing them away from
the roller, and then rotate the pickup roller toward the front.
CAUTION Use gentle pressure to release the small, white tabs to avoid breaking them.
5 Gently pull the pickup roller up and out.
6 Position the new pickup roller in the slot of the previous pickup roller.
NOTE Circular and rectangular pegs on each side prevent you from incorrectly positioning
the pickup roller.
7 Rotate the top of the new pickup roller into position until the white tabs on each side of the roller snap the roller into place.
8 Reinstall the print cartridge, and close the print-cartridge door.
9 Plug in the printer, and then turn it on.

With the roller outside the printer, use the following steps to complete the cleaning.
1 Dampen a lint-free cloth with water and scrub the roller.
2 Using a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe the pickup roller to remove loosened dirt.
3 Allow the pickup roller to dry completely before you reinstall it in the printer. To reinstall the pickup
roller, see steps 6 through 9 of

Printing problem with HP Laserjet P2015 printer

This can be an issue with one of the faulty sensor across the printer.
Please check if you are able to print from tray 1, e.g. a configuration page.
A config page can be printed by holding the Green Button and releasing it as soon as the Triangle light comes on. This would take approx 5 secs.
If the printer is able to print from tray 1, then it could be an issue with the tray 2 pickup sensor.
Check if the tray 2 pickup sensor ( a black plastic piece to the right of the tray 2 pickup roller) is moving freely (front and back), also check if tray 2 pickup roller is not able to rotate completely.

If the tray 2 sensor is not moving freely and of the pickup roller is rotating completely, then reseat the pickup roller.

Normal use with good media causes wear resulting in the need to periodically clean or replace the pickup roller. Additionally, the use of poor media might require more frequent replacement of the pickup roller. Replacing the pickup roller Complete the following to replace the pickup roller:

CAUTION: Failure to complete this procedure might damage the printer. Unplug the power cord from the printer, and allow the printer to cool.

Dell 1700 Transfer Roller

These series printers have a typical problem of the paper pickup rollers wearing out resulting in jams, crooked feeds and partial feeds. a quick fix:

take the paper tray out, turn the printer on edge and locate those two rubber roller bands on the pickup arm. Peel them off, flip them inside-out and return them to the rollers. This restores thier sticky rubber side so the papper feeds properly.

Now if you are a heavy printer, you can order some of these from dell for the next time. Washing these in handsaop and water works sometimes too. never use alcohol.

Rollers are leaving black smudges on my checks

Are you positive that this is a 'roller' problem.  Black smudges usually indicate a drum problem (your toner cartridge).  If you pull it out, you'll see a flap that should move back and forth.  If you move that flap, you'll see a shiny cylendar.  That's the drum.  See if you can see any marks on it (don't touch it with your hands.)

The problem is, it's hard to tell whether or not it's the drum just by looking.  Your best bet is to see if replacing the cartridge takes care of the problem.
