SOURCE: My LaCie 500GB Quadra spins and clicks. Have tried

If you can hear clicking then I am afraid there is a serious problem with the hard drive.

The noise you can hear is usually known as "the click of death" when referring to hard drives.

Make sure you use ONLY the cable that came with it or a SHORTER one.

Dont connect via a USB hub

Make sure you only user the power supply that CAME WITH IT.

Most common causes are that the drive unit was dropped or mishandled or just plain old age

There is no known cure unless the data is mission critical

In which case you could sent it to a data recovery specialist but this is usually VERY expensive.

If you are advised to place it in a freezer or anything similar then that is up to you
but my advise would be to run from the person who may give this advise.

This is very old fashioned advice and meant for very old types of drives that used to get very hot.

If it a drive that was / is from an external enclosure then you could still use the enclosure and just place a new hard drive in there.

Another way to test it it to remove it from the enclosure and connect it directly to a PC with a suitable interface eg. SATA or IDE.

Hi,
Sorry nothing to do your harddrive is dead. you might be able to open the case and replace the harddrive with a new one. Try searching google or youtube on how to do that.

Lacie icon not showing up on my desktop

Try disconnecting the usb cable from the drive and take the drive to a quiet place.

Power up the drive and put your ear next to it. Listen for the internal disk to speed up and then click (which means it's ready). At this point you should have a solid blue LED on the enclosure.

If not, either the disk is bad, the enclosure's controller is bad, or the external power brick is bad (put your ear next to the power brick and if you hear a faint clicking sound, the power brick is bad and you can order a new one from LaCie for about $16.00.

You rate will be much appreciated!

I have the Lacie Rugged hard drive 320,undetectable

Since you have tried connecting the hard drive (HD) into two computers (Win7 and Vista) and both of them had the same problem, you may want to try replacing the cable of the HD.

Another thing, try connecting the HD into a Windows XP computer and see if same thing will happen. If you're hearing a clicking sound while the HD is turned ON, I'm sorry to say but the HD is no longer working. That clicking sound is also called the "Click of Death".

Thank you!

Cannot find the lacie driver on my mac

Chances are the drive is bad. Try taking it to another computer- if it doesn't work there, then the prognosis is poor. Data recovery services are available, but pricey.

LaCie HD won't show up on Mac desktop, quit showing up yesterday

Hello! Had the same problem - go onto the Lacie official website. Select whatever type of drive that it is you have, and simply go onto the software update page. I literally downloaded the desktop manager (I own the Sam Hecht Little Disk) and it appeared! Good luck

Is my LaCie External USB 2.0 500GB fried/dead???

You're not missing any step at all, because with SATA hard drive if its really working your computer should
automatically detect it and since this hard drive suddenly stop working there's a possibility that its already
fried but if you want you can try this hard drive again to a different computer and if still not detected by
second computer its already dead.........
