Using a torch pointed at a 45 degree angle at the screen, see if you can see a partial picture. If so your inverter in the tv has gone, these can be replaced by a technician fairly easily. Or you can locate one on ebay and fit it yourself, just be careful with the backlight connectors. Gently wiggle them out side to side.
