I also have been plagued with the dreaded Brother Error 41 on my MFC 3820CN since I bought it it in 2003. I have spent literally hours on the phone, arguing with brother "customer support", if you can can call it that, and have spent more time and had more trouble than 4 of these machines are worth. They replaced the machine in 2004 with a refurbished one. I took it to a repair center, for the next error 41, and was charged for the print head. They wouldn't re-imburse the cost. I have since bought 2 more print heads and finally gave up on the machine doing anything except printing in black and faxing. Now it won't even fax because of error 41.

Error 41

Hi there

Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement.

My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while if it is under warranty.

If it's out of warranty they are usually a throw away job, the heads cost as much as the printer.

Sorry I know what it feels like, just have a go and see what you can do, clean the heads and so on.

Error #41

This is a normally a printhead error. You can try cleaning it, or replacing it. I went down that route with an Epson . . .It turned out to be more of a hassle, and did not solve the root problem. If still under warranty I would call the manufacturer (Brother). If it's out of warranty, and you can not change the printhead, I would replace it.

The printhead is defective. Call brother hotline. Because this is a very common error (due to malconstruction on the mfc 3820 ) they might replace it for free. And when asked: OF COURSE YOU HAD ALWAYS RUN THE UNIT BY ORIGINAL INK CARTRIDGES!!!! :-) (take the ink carts out before sending or giving it to a service dealer!)
