What program did you use to recover your video? Wouldn't you know I've never had an issue with my camera or discs, except when I recorded my son's birth. :( I'd be grateful for any help.

Yes, I was able to recover my video file, but it also recovered old footage that was "deleted", and attached it to the end of the file I wanted. I then had to use a video editing program (TMPGEenc worked the best, you can find it on the web) to remove the footage I did not want.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

When i turn on my Sony DCR-SR60 Video cam, it seemed OK, but when i press the Record button, an error in the screen appears that said: "Recovering data. Avoid any vibration". After a while...

If this is one with the hard disc if seems that the hard disc has some bad sectors and so is not able to recover.
If you are not able to reset the camcorder even after a number of trials then it seems the hard disc is faulty and will need a replacement.
I would suggest that you take consensus with Sony service for estimate or if this can be fragmented and recovered.

Recovery

this is a READ error known as a CYCLIC REDUNDANCY READ ERROR.
If the CD ROM is not able to read from the disc .. it gives u this error
This can come due to many reasons
1. OLD CD ROM - not able to read data properly
2. CD with lot of scratches
3. CD not written properly: Data not burn properly on CD at the time of its make.

Solution: Try to insert a new CD in it and then check whether it works or not
or get a CD LENS CLEANER DISC which will remove any kind of small debris on the lens on the CD ROM and then it will work.
This would surely help
