Question about Uniden GMR638-2CK (22 Channels) 2-Way Radio

1 Answer

My radio turns off automatically as soon as I hit the talk button.

It still receives, scans, changes volumes and even enters the menu. As soon as I hit Call or Talk, it shuts off. If I hold the power button then hit either of the two, it works, but then it shuts off because I'm holding the power button.

I know it can still send because I found a trick, if I shut it off then turn it back on and still hold the power button, I'm able to talk and call, it's just a nuisance to have to do so.

Please help, is there anyway to reset the device?

Talkabout T461. Transmits, but why doesn't it receive?

Blown speaker is possible, but not likely. It is almost always the programming. Check that first. I would take the non listening radio and press and hold the scan button down until you get the squelch noise, about 3 seconds. Continue holding it and use the other radio to "talk" to it. If you hear the other radio, it is likely the programming is off. These are nice radios, but easy to bump onto the wrong channel or even setting. Oh! Remove all audio earpieces before trying this.

How to Shut off Scrambler on Cp100

1) Hold in the PTT and the Monitor button at the same time. Continue to hold them in while turning on the radio.
2) Continue holding them in until the long bleeping sound stops.
3) Release the buttons.
4) Pressing the menu button will walk you through programming. Be careful not to change any settings you do not want changed. Your first press will show the frequency, next press will be code.
5) Continue pressing until you see a zero (aught) with a slash, this is the place to set scramble.
6) Using your plus or minus button change the number on the screen to be a zero (off).
7) Then press the menu button again. This will lock in your setting.
8) Continue pressing the menu button until the beep you hear is different, a little higher pitch. You are then done programming, shut off the radio and turn back on normally. Your scramble is shut off.

Note: Along the way when you see the word Hi or Lo, this is in reference to the FCC narrowband mandate in the USA. If you are in the USA this setting should be LO (narrowband).

I would like to change the frequency on my XU2100 to frequency #6 so that it receives tran smissions from our other 2-way in our community watch. If we leave them on scan they do work, but we would like to...

Hold the PTT button and the MON button in while turning on the radio. Continue to hold them until the programming initialization noises stop. Press the menu button one time to get to the Freq setting, change it to 6. Then press the menu button to lock in this setting. The next menu screen is the Code, set it to match your other units. Then press the menu button again to lock it in. Press the menu button to walk through another 2 or 3 screens and then you will hear a different chirp. Your radio is now programmed, simply shut it off and turn it back on and your radios should work.

Best regards.

Do the Uniden walkie talkie (UHO36SX) on listening mode (RX) normally give out a loud rushing noise? It would be impossible to have it on in a quiet place waiting for someone to talk.

No, the radios should be silent (squelched) when not receiving a transmission. Appliances (computers, televisions, even refrigerators) can generate enough "hash" to break the squelch and give you that "rushing" noise. Make sure that the radios are at least 4 or 5 feet apart, and try moving them to different locations to clear up the problem.

My radio turns off automatically as soon as I hit the talk button.

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, I would assume that you have a pair and that the problem is with just one.

Based on this, I would suggest switching the NimH batteries. This is to eliminate the possibility that is is a battery/charging issue. Additionally, pls try to verify that the battery contacts both on the radio and the batteries themselves are clean. You may need to scrape them off to assure positive contact. Further on the radio's battery terminals, you may need to slightly bend them (or stretch if spring type) to provide more pressure in the contacts.

Incidentally, removing the battery for an extended period of time is enough to perform a reset.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Instructions on how to change channels on TECHNIKA MODEL TA-13

Basic Instructions for Technika Model TA-13

On this model there are 7 buttons:
Left to Right these are:

PTT, Push to talk on lh side as screen faces you.
Power/Menu
Scan
Call
Down
Up
Torch Light (on rh side)

Assuming you have used the power button to turn on the radio, the default channel after installing the batteries is 1 or else the last channel to be used.

Press the power/menu button once-briefly, (the current channel will flash for about 10 seconds.) Then use the Up and Down arrows to change channel. Wait for the remaining few seconds and the radio will return to normal operation.

Press the menu button twice, the letter H or L will appear and can be altered by the Up and Down keys to change the power level of the radio. I think this is transmit power which may help you avoid infuriating local taxi companies. Switch back to High power when you're about to go out for the night and need a ride.

Press the menu button three times. This will turn off Squelch control and make a terrible din. Not terribly useful unless you want to pick up a really weak signal (or find out where the taxi driver has taken your neighbour.)

An easy way of finding a channel is to press and hold the Scan button and then the device will rotate through the available channels looking for a signal. When someone transmits, the scan will pause and you can capture it by pressing the PTT button for a second or two. I have found this helpful in pairing my radios with other sets, or picking out channels that work with friend's radios.

Finally, Volume control is really simple, just up and down when not in any other mode.

I had the instructions, which I think included a mention of all available channels I'll scan and post them if ever I find them. hope this part helps though.
