HP Pavilion a220n cd-rw doesn't work

I just had my computer's windows xp re-installed due to a virus that made it stop working.

The company kept my music and important documents but I did have to download a driver for my printer since that was missing.

My cd-rw drive is not working. I assume I need a driver but cannot find one anywhere. I have only found 1 answer but it's telling me to copy the downloaded file to a cd. But the cd-rw drive doesn't work so I can't do it.

Do you know what I can do to get this to work again?

The device manager says it's a "Sony CD-RW CRX215E5".

I've been searching for about 9 hours straight and I can't think anymore. Please, can anyone help me?

THANK YOU SO MUCH....

    Hi,

It will play a cd but will not burn. I have tried several free cd burners as well as the ones built in and errors keep coming up. I've also tried several types of cd-r's as well.

The drivers for a CD or DVD drive are known as ATAPI and are built in to Windows, you do not need to down load them, they would be installed automatically by Windows.

When you say your CD drive is not working, what isn't working? will it not burn a CD or does it not even play a CD?

There are several different types of CD burning software, Windows own built in, OEM, Retail and free.
I never use the Windows burner, no reason just choice. The OEM burning software is specific to the CD burner it was supplied with. Retail should work with any CD burner and the free ones tend to be a little hit and miss.
I don't know what type of CD burning software you have (oem or retail) but maybe somewhere along the line the wrong software has been installed.
A few people I know recommend DeepBurner which is free, you can download it here:
http://www.deepburner.com/?r=download
Quite honestly if you cannot get your CD burner to work any more I would simply replace it, they are so cheap these days and require very little knowledge to change, it might just not be worth the effort of messing with that one.

Please help how to format pavilion dv4000 because effected virus. I hope you will help me, thank you. Paul

Before formatting or reinstalling windows try downloading ESET smart security 30 day trial and uninstalling your current antivirus.
http://www.eset.com/.
If you can install it do it. This will surely clean up your computer, if you see everything is fine then there will be no need to reinstall windows.
Remember that a complete windows install will make you loose everything!
From the Windows XP desktop, click Start , All Programs , and then one of the following options:
The following options are for HP computers. Compaq computers will have similar options (for example, Compaq Tools).
1. HP Tools , and then HP PC System Recovery .
2.Hewlett-Packard , hp pavilion pc tools , and hp pc system recovery .
3.PC Help & Tools , and then HP PC System Recovery .
should be ok.

I have a Pavilion HP dv4 laptop with Windows Vista. It is fast with internet pages, but incredibly slow opening, saving files on the computer. It may take 5 minues to open a folder on the C drive!

First use the recovery cd ..or installation cd ..to reinstall the operation system ....cause this is a sign that it got a bug on the system ..or has some damaged files that slow it down ....
Another thing ...if it worked like this always...I sugest to downgrade to windows xp .cause you probably do not have enough Ram memory for this OS ...or upgrade the ram by inserting one more slot if it has free slots...
for vista to operate well enough in a computer you need at least 2G of ram memory ...if you have only one ....better install windows XP ...if you want to downgrade to Xp and do not have the drivers ..let me know to link you to a download location ...

HP Pavilion a220n cd-rw won't burn

Maybe you will see the error status in the peripheric manager. First, go to the control panel, look for the system icon. Double-click on it. Then, select the material tab. Click on the peripheric manager (sorry, I use the French version, so it may not be called that way, but it is the first button on that tab). You will then see all the different type of material connected. Click on the + in front of the CD-ROM, DVD player. If there is a yellow mark !, that means that the installation is not correct. You can simply erase that configuration (right-click and select erase). You restart your computer and Windows XP will rebuild that info.

Please, give me some news.

Installing Windows XP on new drive in HP a220n

Your new hard drive has a name, like Seagate, Western Digtail, bla, bla... Go to the Mfg's web site for your drive. Download the bootable floppy disk manager setup utilities. If you have a floppy disk drive. If you don't have a floppy drive most Mfg's allow you to make a bootable CD. Lastly or maybe I should have mentioned this first. Make sure your drive is pinned out correctly. I'm only guessing you bought an IDE drive which has a jumper for setting the drive as a master or a slave or a master with a slave.
