1. Plug in the power cord.
2. Plug in the optical cable from your TV to your sound bar.
3. Turn on your TV.
4. Turn on your Soundbar.
5. Check the audio on your soundbar and make sure it's set to the right input.
Read the user guide that comes with the sound bar. The bar has an optical link and RCA input jacks. The Auria TV should have RCA output jacks, so get a paired cable set with red and white RCA plugs on both ends. The input button on the sound bar will select the connected input when pressed.
I found the following evaluation of the sound quality for the Vizio D television from the Rtings.com web site:

The sound quality is sub-par, and the TV doesn't get very loud. You will definitely benefit from having a separate sound system. Even a cheap sound bar would be an improvement.

So, you probably didn't make any errors in setting the TV up and may need to purchase a sound bar or speakers. We have an older model Vizio TV and found the sound quality is improved with added speakers. Our speakers can work as a sound bar or 2 speaker units on each side of the TV.
If the TV and sound bar have an optical connector, then get the optical cable to connect the two. If not then use the audio out jacks on the TV and don't forget to change the audio set up to switch the sound to the sound bar.
