Exif 2.2 is an image format created by JEIDA (Japan Electronic Industry Development Association) for storing information with image data such as shutter speed, aperture, flash, date, etc. Some printers have the capability to automatically adjust the print quality using this information.

I do not want to print out date on Kodak pictures

You can't get the date in a picture. It is hidden in the exif data and you only can view it with a exif viewer. You could use any photo editor to put the date in the photo then.

I have 800 + holiday photos via Picasa on a usb, but they are no longer in the date taken order, that I require

images from digital cameras generally contain metadata (EXIF). There are tools that allow you to rename images based on EXIF Data, like this one: AmoK Exif Sorter 2 56 Official Website

Downloading will not use the original EXIF date for photos, either 1) by creating a Folder named YYYYDDMM or similar, or 2) by saving it with jpgs. How can I get the EXIF date to save?

The EXIF date and the file system date are two totally separate things. As long as you use tools that maintain the EXIF data you will still have the original information.
I rename my photos using XNview so that the name of the file is based on the EXIF date. i.e. <Date Taken[y-m-d]>(xxx).jpg where xxx is the three digits from the original filename.

Question Mark Appearing on Canon Selphy printer screen

I encountered this issue with a Selphy CP800 and I presume the reason is the same; it seems to be a common problem. Canon tech support says that Selphy printers need exif data "just so" in order to generate screen previews. If all you do is copy your image to a flash memory device from your camera card, you may well be OK. But if you edit the images (e.g. in Photoshop) you will very likely alter the exif data so that Selphy cannot generate previews from flash media plugged into Selphy. If you are copying images back to a **camera** SD card you may also have to make sure that you don't alter the file structure already present on the card. There are undoubtedly other ways to louse up the exif data of an image so that you can't get a screen preview. Workarounds: 1) official Canon advice is to print the image directly from your computer - that's what tech support told me; 2) if you own Canon's Digital Photo Professional Software you can rebuild the exif data by using File>Convert and save>kind of file = exif-jpeg - this worked for me; 3) Graphic Converter for Mac now has a way of rebuilding exif data according to a poster on the Apple discussion boards; I could not test this out b/c my (old) version of Graphic Converter, 5.4, does not have this capability; 4) if you get a screen question mark, the image will still print - you just can't see the preview. This is only a problem if there's more than one image that generates a question mark on your flash media device because you can't see what image you're printing. So if all else fails and you have to print from flash media, you can put a single image with screwy exif data on a flash drive and be confident that you know what you're printing.

Exif Print or PIM Print feature

The printing information that is included as part of the Exif 2.2 header in the JPEG file, is read and used by a Print Image Matching enabled printer. If you have a compatible printer that has a built in media slot, you can insert the digital camera’s memory card into a card reader and then into a printer’s media slot. If you do not have a printer that accepts a card directly, you can use a plug-in for a graphics program such as Adobe PhotoShop 7.0, to utilize this information. CAMEDIA Master 4.03 and above supports Exif Print and PIM.
