It sounds like you may need a new switch rocker arm. If so this is not an expensive repair. I would suggest you takeit to a reputable vacum shop for repair.Chris

Vacuum working perfectly and everything stopped. Went to the utility room and found a plastic bag on top of the equipment. Tried the reset button, etc. nothing works.

sounds like a bad relay in the tank just a simple repair but should be done by a vacuum tech or electrician. Could be a motor is nothing is starting at all, but not as likely.

When I hit the power switch it turns on, but it will not stay on.

If this were mine I would take the old switch off and put a toggle switch from Home Depot in it. Make sure it's rated for 110 volts and the wattage of your machine or at least 100 watts. It should cost no more than 2-3 dinero or about 1/200th the cost of a new one.

the actuator in the switch is defective, you can replace just the switch. There are several places to get just the switch, just google "dyson dc07 parts" for places on where to get the switch.

My old vacume had the same problem - the wire had a 'plug' on both ends. 1 to the wall outlet and 1 to the vacume, which you could pull out of the vacume. It was making poor contact at the vacume and eventialy burned out (melted)
See if the plug/wire to the unit is removable, if so is it damaged?,
could need a cleaning, or it may not be pushed in all the way.

Good Luck
