Panasonic tv hdmi inputs not working

It appears that during the storm there may have been an electrical surge that damaged the electronics of your tv. If the tuner is working fine then the affected area (board) is the one that has the HDMI input sources.

AFTER A LIGHTNING STORM MY 37 INCH INSIGNIA TV HDMI INPUT HAS A NO SIGNAL. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? IT WORKS FINE THROUGH THE COMPONENT INPUT.

Hi
Its tuner has been damaged. Lightning stroke will have Trillions of volts when it hit the earth. No electrical houlhold equipent can withstand it. Evan a part of it is efficiant to damage the tuner and other sections of a TV; designed to work with 120V or 220VAC. The induced voltage that came through the cable of by the antenna, surely had damaged your TVs tuner. If tuner has been damaged, the set will not get any signal to process. According to your description, all the other sections are working now. Otherwise you won't get any screen at all. Get it repaired by any experienced service technican or by the Authorised Service Center for Insigina at your town. If you are able to, you can do it yoursef. But after tuner replacement, some adjustments may have to be done. If you have knoledge in digital electronics, measuring equuipments, and a concept of soldering, dare to do it. Otherwise it will be best to get it repaired by any experienced service person. OK

Absolutely no power on my Toshiba flatscreen lcd led tv. In a lighting storm we unplugged all of the appliances. This tv still was damaged because it was connected to the cable box via a hdmi cable. Not a...

If the HDMI cable was the only connection, then the high voltage pulse would have had to go through one or more of the video wires in the cable, through the video board, and back out the HDMI cable shielding. What troubles me is you should see the unit come up to standby and refuse to power on. That suggests there was something else connected besides the HDMI cable or the base made a decent ground. At least the panel is worth $150 or so (it is highly unlikely it was damaged).

From time to time the TV picture freezes, and I have to reboot before I can continue watching programmes

Hi,

Pull the power cord out of the back of the box and plug it back in again. Your box is probably locked up. A cable tuner or a satellite tuner is nothing more than a pretty primitive computer, and like any computer, it sometimes freezes. That's generally what's going on with that particular system.

Normally when a picture freezes it isn't the TV but the signal the TV is receiving from whatever source it's hooked up to. If you have digital cable and the company is having any type of technical difficulties with their signal, it can cause the picture to freeze. If you've ever watched TV with someone who has Dish or DirecTV while a storm was over-head, you may have seen it happen to their picture. However, if you're able to rule out the cable equipment and the cable company as being the problem, then there is something wrong with your TV. So whatever the case, if it's the TV the only troubleshooting you can try is to unplug the unit for 30 minutes. If that doesn't fix the issue, the TV likely needs to be serviced.

No power (dead after a lightning storm hit the house. Tried replacing the two power circuit boards and have a current going in and all around all circuit boards. Still no sign of life when plugged in...

If its after a lightning storm, it really could be anything. Your mainboard could quite possibly be shot. In fact almost anything in the TV could be damaged by a big surge. It could even be that your backlights went out from the surge too.

Does your power LED come on? What is it connected to? Directly to the power board or is it connected to the mainboard? If you have current through all the circuit boards, you may have a burnt tuner or chip on the mainboard.

Might not be worth fixing depending on the size/model. If its a big LCD, you could probably get a good deal on a working one of the same size with a broken LCD panel (~$100). Then you can just replace the broken LCD panel with yours and you have a fixed TV.

My TV says NO SIGNAL on tuner...

yes, you may be lucky to just to burnt one of the source/input mode try switching them.
for example use a video cable instead a coax if you still dont get a signal that means the picture uotput board is damage by the storm.

Can a flat screen TV with ASC tuner pushed inside be repaired?

sue_shellenb,

I am an installer for a nationwide big blue store. The inputs on the back of tv's are fairly fragile. In my opinion, if the tuner to tv interface is damaged, ("In the process the ASC tuner, or internal tuner, was pushed back into the TV and the technician said it couldn't be repaired.") it probably is not repairable. Or at least, not economically repairable. Cheaper to replace the whole tv.

On the up side, $850 is pretty cheap for a 47 inch flat screen.

TV tuner

Bill, did your tuner go out? I have had the same television for one year. We had a storm and our Buckeye cable went out. All the other tvs came back fine except for the room with the Olevia 232-S12. Everything works now except for the tuner. Cable came in and installed a converter box. Just wondered if you had the same problem (not the storm, but the tuner)
