SOURCE: Amana BX22A2W - freezer works, fridge not cooling

Same problem here with an Amana refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I removed the back panels and vacuumed dust and cat hair out. The back panel in the freezer was frosted over with ice on the bottom. I removed the shelves and food and used a hairdryer to loosen the panel. The ice maker made it harder to remove the plastic panel so I pulled it back and saw the cooling fins frozen solid. I used the hairdryer to melt the ice and a shop vacuum to collect the water. It works like new again.

SOURCE: Amana model SXD25QA3W. Not cooling. Compressor runs.

Low on refrigerant which is R 12. EPA has stopped the manufacture of it and it is priced out of sight.
You have a leak and will need it fixed. Compressor is about $300-400 list. You don't want to go there.
Good luck but likely 15-17 years old....... New one ???

Amana refrigerator ars2365aw refrigerator/freezer works perfectly for a day or two then stops cooling. Compressor and fans are still running. I will unplug it for a days, plug it back in then it will work...

if your freezers back wall has a layer of frost build up on it,that means the defrost heater or thermostat that controls this heater is bad,if theres an ice buildup on the evaporator coils it cant blow cold air into the unityou need to find out whats bad as it can no longer defrost, when you shut it off for a day you are defrosting the unit, then the frost and ice again cover the coil when you plug it back in

Amana ars2464bs quit working overnight. Freezer may have been left ajar, all night. The motor is hot and a clicking sound can be heard every couple of minutes. Frige and freezer room temp.

Unplug and manual defrost This happens when warm moist air is drawn into refrigerator. It freezes as frost and confuses the motherboard or defrost timer and put a heavy strain on compressor.. You also have a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment. It is possible you can run forward to force defrost=> 67001036 Defrost Timer turn timer with small flathead screwdriver slowly clockwise.Click Here=> ARS2464B Amana Refrigerator Control Parts List Part 711 in top left photo can be found in the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. The freezer is not working properly. Measured temp at almost 40 deg. Have cleaned coils and vacumned fan grill. Some items are frozen, but newly added do not freeze.

Check for any frost on the inside, probably the back, of the freezer compartment. If there is any, either the defrost heater, defrost timer or defrost termination thermostat is bad. Need your model # to continue.

Fridge not cooling... Tried adjusting temp to max cool and nothing. Unblocked vents, still nothing... About to try pulling off back panel cover to vacuum and brush... but sure I will still get nothing......

This sounds like a problem with the defrost circuit. It is likely that the evaporator coil is clogged with ice due to the defrost heater not functioning. This can be caused by a failure of any one or more of the following components:

1) Defrost timer. Defrost timer may be "stuck" - failing to advance from a cooling cycle to a defrost cycle. May be found in the toe space of many fridges, but not all.

2) Defrost terminator. This is a thermal sensor that is secured to the refrigerant line close to the evaporator coil in / behind the freezer compartment. If this component fails to detect a rising temperature, it never allows the fridge to return to the cooling mode again.

3) Defroster Heating coil. This is a simple, relatively low wattage heater secured to or near the evaporator coil. It is powered through the defrost timer and shut off by the defrost terminator. If the coil is burned out or otherwise "open", it will not heat to melt ice buildup on the evaporator coil.

4) Fan. The fan is located near the evaporator coil. if the fan is unable move air from the freezer to the fridge, the compressor runs endlessly because cold air is not blown into the fridge compartment - where the thermostat is detecting a high temperature.

5) Condenser coil. If the condenser has a "furry jacket" it's long overdue for a cleaning. Gently vacuum lint / dust / dirt collected on the coil to increase efficiency. This is probably not the problem - but it probably needs to be done anyway.

Most of these steps will require hand tools, schematics (specific to your model), electrical test equipment, etc. Be careful to not use sharp instruments that may puncture refrigerant lines or electrical insulation. Allow the ice to defrost with the fridge powered off with the freezer door opened, and a pot of hot water inside, hair dryer directed at the coil, etc. Access to the evaporator coil is usually from the freezer compartment (back wall) and will require removal of any ice maker installed.

1 Answer

The inside of the refrigerator get full of water condensation(lots)

It is not condensation

The drain at the bottom of the freezer under the coils is clogged. Remove Icemaker if you have one, remove bottom floor of freezer, remove back panel of freezer. Use hairdryer to melt ice. ALL ICE MUST BE REMOVED. Use hot water and a turkey baster to get ice out of drain hole located about middle under coils. Be patient, do not chip ice with sharp tool. After ice is removed pour hot water down drain hole. Water must come out in drain pan under refrigerator(you may have to take front grille off to get to pan)

If Ice returns after a few weeks, you need to look at defrost thermostat which is usually clipped on cold coil at back of freezer. This part or the defrost timer could be defective.

Amana bottom freezer problem

It sounds like the condenser coil might be freezing up. This happened to me on my bottom freezer. The cooling part of your fridge is only in the back of the freezer compartment. The cold air from the freezer blows up through a vent in the back to the fridge and comes out at the top. If the coils do not defrost (which is what happened with mine) the air flow is blocked by the ice and can't get to the fridge compartment. Your freezer will still be cold but your fridge won't. If you pull the plug on it and time things right you can defrost the coils but this will only postpone the problem. Both will work for awhile again until the coils ice up again. You can also pull out the freezer drawere and try to defrost the coil with a blow dryer. You have to disconnect the icemaker and pull out the back panel behind the freezer to get to it though.

My top refrigerator is warm

verify if the condenser has a fan if so, suspect the fan defective and coil dirty or clogged, clean coil and replace fan (if any/defective). 2nd possible fault that your defrost system has a possible failure. If your good with an voltmeter you can put it on the "audible" mode and check your defrost heater if good and if it uses an defrost timer or adaptive defrost board suspect that faulty also
