Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

1 Answer

I've got a frigidaire (gibson) freezer, only a year old. GFU2065FWA. Yesterday it wasn't cold enough. Discovered evaporator coils frozen up with ice and snow. Not defrosting properly. I let it defrost today. There is no mechanical defrost timer on this unit. Just an electronic control panel. I tested the heater cord, and current goes through it. How can I test the electronic panel? I plugged it back in, and it's starting to cool down now. How much build up on the coils is normal? Thanks.

This frig was less than 6 mohths old and stopped defrausting. I had a repair person put a new "mother board" he called it. It quit working again after about 6 months. It won't defrost. I bought the part he replaced on line and installed myself since I watched him and it took less than 5 minutes. It worked a month and it started frosting up again. He wants $250 to come fix it again.

Fridge not keeping cold..

Check the coils underneath the fridge. Carefully vacuum and brush the coils clean. Usually there is a condenser fan near the compressor and condenser and a evaporator fan in the freezer. Make sure they both are turning.

Frigidaire top-mount refig. freezer won't get cold ,temp.stays around 26 degrees, refrig. don't keep milk cold enough

check that the evaporator fan motor ,located in freezer is working.it circulates the cold air.also check that the coils behind freezer back panel are not iced up,this would indicate a lack of defroting due to,timer, heating element,or bi-metal.lastly when the refrig is running those coils should get frost over them all,if not you may be low on refigerant

FRIGIDAIRE frost free refrigerator seems to be leaking. Items in freezer are frozen...items in refrigerator are cold...any ideas? It has an ice maker which is working. Approx. 13 years old.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

IMy freezer is not getting cold enough anymore

We need to check to see if your freezer is defrosting properly. I am pretty sure your refrigerator has a defrost timer located inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear panel inside the freezer to have a good look at the evaporator. If frozen over defrost with a hair dryer. Then let me know so we can test the defrost heater and thermostat. Your model shows a defrost timer and that is the most likely reason if you find the freezer evaporator coils frozen over. See if you can locate the timer first and turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. Wait 25 minutes and the timer should turn the compressor back on. If it does not the the timer will need replaced. Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

FRIGIDAIRE REFRIGERATOR PROBLEMS

Freezer stayed cold but upper compartment wouldn't. Freeze started having problems with staying cold. I just paid $377 to get the two year old evaporate fan replaced. It is located inside the frig behind the panel in the freezer compartment. It took about 15 minutes. Seems this part is part of the evaporator system but not covered by anything other than the first one year warranty. Problem solved but what a ripoff from Kitchenaid.

Freezer not working properly...

Nortron, sounds like the system is restricted. I have seen a lot of these Frigidaires in the past 5 years with this problem. You should have a even frost pattern through the entire evaporator. I have been changing the compressor, evaporator and heat exchanger on these models. Your system on this refer is covered for 5 years, parts and labor for this failure. Here's hoping it's under 5 years. If it is, make sure all three componets mentioned above are changed out, otherwise the same deal is going to happen again down the road. Catriver.
