Question about HP Pavilion F1703 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Flashing monitor My HP Pavilion monitor keeps flashing on and off. The cord checks out fine with other monitors, as does the video card. And the computer is fine. It acts like it needs to be reset or something, but I can find no reset button. Any ideas?

Sounds like the power supply can't keep up with the demand. It starts to work and then shuts off and then right back on repetedly? Probably bad electrolytic capacitors in the power supply, a pretty easy fix if you can identify which ones are bad and have a soldering iron with the right type of solder and some soldering skills. Good Luck

Try using a different monitor to check if it is your monitor that is indeed bad.

Also, try using a different cable if possible.

If the computer is at fault (different monitor didn't work either) then you can try installing a graphics card.

Look inside your computer and see if a slot for a graphics card is there. This will be a single unique slot unliek the others in the system.

I have an hp pavilion a720n desktop with an hp pavilion mx70 monitor and windows xp home. There is a problem with the color displayed on the monitor. I see mainly black and white, but blue shows up fine....

First of all you can check the computer by connecting another monitor to it to see if the problem goes away...if so then the problem would be in the monitor. If not , then I would try to change the video grafics card in the computer(assuming you don't have built in video). If you have built in video on the mother board then you will either need to replace the motherboard or disable the onboard video and install a video card

Just moved and trying to set up the computer. Monitor light keeps flashing with a blank screen

Check that the "data" cable between the monitor and your computer's video-card is tightly connected at both ends.

No "signal" reaching the monitor means nothing on the screen.

Monitor will not come on

Try to remove the wire connecting from the monitor to motherboard if there was a display in the monitor then no problem with your monitor. Try to check the battery in motherboard.

This usually means that it is not getting a video signal. Try checking the connections and make sure your video card is seated properly in the computer.

I have my HP Pavilion hooked up to my new Acer al2216W monitor. The image comes up on the monitor but keeps flashing on and off constantly. How do I make the screen stay on?

Video Card problem. This can be caused by your onboard video card or a separate video card installed on your AGP or PCIE slot. Either way, try changing your display settings first. Set it at a lower or higher refresh rate and lower or higher bit and resolution settings.

Monitor went to sleep and won't wake up

It sounds like a driver issue, but more likely the monitor driver, not the video card, since the other monitor works properly.
If you go into the video properties, check the monitor settings. You should be able to switch it to a generic monitor. You also need to make sure that you have the correct monitor refresh frequency set. If you have a mis-match, the video card could send signals at a rate the monitor can;t handle, which is why it won't "wake" even after a reboot and might need to be unplugeed to get it to come back on.

HP 19" Monitor Blinking

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing statebecause of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.
