Re: how do I program a 1987 rca tv, lost the remote for...
If it is xl-100 "remote control" model (manu. 1987) I have a drop down door on front, there are names for buttons (5) at left:
step > (arrows actually up/down)
The other buttons to R are channel up & down, volume up & down & red Power, of course.
On the left, if you can "add" in some channels you scroll by, you may get more than 60.
(is this all moot, in 34 days, Feb 17)
My remote for another RCA does work some, for this "oldy."
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Push the tv menu button on the front of the tv set.Go to Audio setup used the channel buttons UP and DOWN to pick ur choice. Can't do this manually.Try website like Remotes.com to buy an tv original remote.
If you have its original remote control you can unlock its parential settings and reset it. Then only you can watch other channels also. I'm ver sorry to say that if you lost your TVs remote control, you will be unable to unlock it. Try to get a remote from any of your friends who owns the same model number RCA TV. If you are able to get it, do the following with that remote, and reset the V-chip. Try to purchase one new remote control from RCA.
Most RCA and GE TV sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The code reset is different depending on the model. Try each number until you find the one that works for you.
Hold down the MENU button on the remote and VOLUME DOWN button on the TV it's self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
Hold down the 0 (zero) button on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN button on the TV itself at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
Hold down the MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. 4- Hold down GO BACK button on the remote and MENU button on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down EJECT button on the front of the TV set and the MENU button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. Depending on the model, one of the methods should unlock the V-chip. Now, if desired, you can change the settings on the V-chip by going to the MENU and going to PARENTAL CONTROLS, or on some sets, going to MENU and then going to TV SETUP, then to V-CHIP SET.
Unfortunately, the Input button (to change the source from INPUT 1, INPUT 2, INPUT 3, INPUT 4, Front Input, HDMI/DVI, and last-active channel) is only on the remote. If your universal remote was built 6 months after the TV was released, try a different code for RCA/Thomson TVs (assuming the remote has an input or source key). Thomson built the TV.
Yes go to menu with the buttons on your TV and go to CATV sometime u can press your channel button until your channels run out and if u keep pressing the channel button it will go into game mode or in other words switch to the RCA jacks in front of your TV
You're going to need the remote to fix this one. If you have any other GE or RCA tv's you can try it. Most of the remotes that are produced within a few years of your television will probably work. When you get one the instructions are:
Front Panel Lock
This feature allows you to lock the buttons on the front of the TV. Even when the front
panel lock feature is on, the TV operates with the remote control.
To lock the buttons on the front of the TV:
1. Make sure the TV is on.
2. Press and hold the POWER button on the remote for approximately 5 seconds.
To turn off the front panel lock:
1. Make sure the TV is off.
2. Press and hold the POWER button on the remote for approximately 5 seconds
METHOD" presse TV1 and SET button light on remote is steady enter code ...light goes out.. PRESS SET again and try. Keep trying unhtil unit can be turned on or off, then you know you have the right code. Write it on the back of the TV incase it drops out which can happen.
Hi, i found that your brand is not listed RCA code list, your G&E remote is good one and easy to detect code for your tv. solution using your GE remote : 1. Turn on the device(TV) you wish to program. 2. Press and hold CODE SEARCH/SETUP until the INDICATOR LIGHT lights, then release. 3. Press and release the device(TV) button for the device you are programming . The INDICATOR LIGHT will blink once then remain lit. using your RCA controller: 1. Press and hold CODE SEARCH until the INDICATOR LIGHT lights, then release CODE SEARCH. 2. Press and release the device button for the device’s code you are retrieving (TV,VCR or DBS•CABLE). The INDICATOR LIGHT will blink once then remain lit. Note: For AUX, press DVD•AUX then the device button for the code you are retrieving. 3. Press and release CODE SEARCH. The INDICATOR LIGHT will turn off. 4. Starting with 0 on the keypad, press the number buttons in order (0-9) until the INDICATOR LIGHT blinks. 5. The number which causes the INDICATOR LIGHT to blink is the first digit of your code. 6. Repeat step 4 until you have retrieved all three numbers in code i hope this will solve your problem regards, cseian

ONCE TV TURNS OFF HIT THE REVERSE BUTTON THE TV WILL COME BACK ON.
HIT THE STOP BUTTON TO SAVE THE CODE.

Igotthisinfo from google....then typed in rca universal remote...there was a sight for programming remote.
If the TV is in "parental lock", then it will not respond to the buttons on the front of the TV. Get a cheap universal remote control, program it for RCA, turn the set on and go through the menu to unlock.
