I would think it may be a failure of the cook relay on the board, since the noise is quieter.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

Sorry i can\'t help more. This will need troubleshooting.

Most MW do have an internal fuse, most likly a 10 amp ceramic (HRC) You can replace with a glass one but if it blows it could rupture

I have a samsung smh7177ste/be microwave that will not heat. Every thing seems to be working as normal

The problem is one of three things, the magnetron "common issue" or the high voltage capacitor and diode can be a factor, the above mentioned work together to heat food. Depending on the nature of the repair, parts and labor can run as high as a new microwave oven.

The microwave turns on, but it does not heat the food.

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, your symptoms ("runs but no heat"), as well as the answers to these questions:

- When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

- Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

(A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.)

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

Samsung microwave MW1430WA often refuses to respond to any control buttons. Sometimes it shows ''ON'', sometimes ''OFF'' and on these occasions will often restore Time by pressing ''Pause/Cancel'',...

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

You have a failing membrane keypad.

On some models, you have to peel off the old one and replace it.

On some models, you remove your controller and move your circuit board into a new frame with a keypad already installed.

FixYa is not currently notifying us when Clarification Requests are answered, so please contact me directly with your full model number from the tag on / in the unit and color so we can help you with free do-it-yourself tips and/or an estimate.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SMH7178STD Not working properly

E4 means your thermistor (temperature sensor) is shorted or caked with grease, making it look shorted.

Normally you can get Samsung parts here: http://www.samsungparts.com/search/search.asp

But that part does not show up on a search so you'll probably have to call them:

J & J International, Inc.
311 Route 46 W, Suite E
Fairfield, NJ 07004

Fan vent door not working

First of all, if it's less than a year old, it will be under warranty and you should contact Samsung to cover the service. You can try the number in your manual or try samsung.com

There is a drive motor that opens and closes the vent fan door. It or an associated switch may have failed.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Samsung Microwave model # SMH7178STD just stopped working.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can find Samsung-specific parts here: http://www.samsungparts.com/search/search.asp
