The Ni-MH batteries are recommended for the active photographer. The NI-MH batteries are rechargeable, economical and work well in low temperatures. The LB-01 CR-V3 Lithium Batteries are recommended for the less active photographer. They are lightweight, non-rechargeable batteries that provide hours of shooting.

I put new batteries into the camera but it continually tells me "low battery". What's wrong??? Do I need a specific brand or type of battery?

Yes, you are correct.

Digital camera need a high drain battery like NIMH or ALKALINE type, and don't a multi purpose ( standard battery).

My favorite battery is Energizer 2500 mAH ( recharged type).

Please check the battery you are using right now and replace it as guided above. If there is no internal problem on your digital camera, this recommend batteries will working just fine.

The batteries go dead instantly takes two pics then goes dead. is there an alternate power source for the EMV164

Hello,
I do apologize that you having issues with your camera.
Sounds like you having some type of power drain on your batteries?
Without going into a bunch of deals lets first ask you this, What type of batteries are you using?
Brand? Type?
Most batteries that are bought under $5 bucks will not work in these types of camera's successfully. Please check the back of the battery package to see what devices are supportive. I recommend batteries.com for high grade long lasting batteries. I also recommend recharge-ables so your not wasting your hard earned cash on something that is going in the landfills.
Now the alternative power source for this would be better batteries. Now if it drains rechargeable like it does the ones your currently using then the device would have a fault inside somewhere. Please consider using rechargeable first, if you have any questions let us know asap.
Thanks for using fixya.com

What type of battery is the best and recommended for Casio QV-R40

The Camera would work with 4 AA batteries of almost any type. However a high capacity rechargeable battery would be more economical in the long run and you need a charger too. NiMh batteries with capacities of between 1200mah and 2900mah would be fine. The Hybrio type comes ready-charged and retains its charge best on the shelf. Therefore I would recommend e.g.
Four, Uniross Hybrio AA 2100mah rechargeable batteries
