Question about PC Desktops

2 Answers

My pc was fine until a couple of days ago when a few websites refused to open (though many respond succesfully). i got a message saying i needed to install an updated flash player. Even though I've done this, and i get a message saying that the installation has been completed successfully, when i try to open certain pages i still get a prompt telling me that i need to install an updated player! I have winows vista and at about the same tme as this problem occurring i installed Service Pack 1. Do you think this is the problem or is it a coincidence? I'd be grateful for any advice

I believe that it is a reasonably educated guess on my part to to assume coincidence in this matter. It would be nice to know what websites are refusing to open but that would depend on your descretion toward making those URLs public information. If you still believe that you have a problem with accessing some websites due to something on your system that you are not quite sure of, I would recommend a good malware cleaner such as MalwareBytes from here and SuperAntispyware from here
Both can be used in a freeware mode of operation that is just as effective as their paid for modes.
I recommend them because they have recently done an excellent job for me in a Virtumonde/Vundo infestation that was pretty much forcing to have to consider a format and re-install.
Do the scan and cleans, reboot, do another set of scan and cleans, and don't be afraid to do a third set if you feel it is necessary. If the programs detect anything they will let you know and chances are whatever Antivirus program you have on your system will start to cooperate with the anti-malware programs to help in the cleaning process.
If however the programs don't find anything, consider yourself lucky and give us more information please.

Have you opened the computer up and checked the fans for dust. As you say, those are clasic overheating symptoms
Use a small brush and a vaccum cleaner, or a can of compressed air(air duster) to clean your pc's fans.

PC disc read error with my hard drive

this is a sign that either you hard drive is about to fail, or there is a corrupt sector on it. Next time you boot up the pc go to my computer, right click and explore, then right click on the 'C' drive and select properties, then at the tools tab at the top of the window select error checking and click check now. The pc will probably need to restart to do the check. Back up any important docs as it may be aboit to fail.
