This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating

  • Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
  • If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
  • When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

SOURCE: Double oven / convection not working

It is likely that the convection element is burned out and needs to be replaced. If all other functions are working then this is the place to start. Teh back panel inside of the oven can be removed by removing the 4 visible philips screws on it. The element should look smooth and round, if not then it needs to be replaced. Be sure to turn power off to the oven before replacing it. Remove the screws that fasten the element to the back wall and gently pull the element away from the wall an inch or so. the wires will be exposed and can be unclipped from the element do not let them fall inside of the back of the oven or you will have to remove the oven from the wall to get at the back panel. Install the new element in the reverse procedure. If the element looks good then it will have to be tested with a multimeter to verify that it is still good before proceeding to check the selector switch for burn marks.

It could be that the element around the fan (which is obscured by metal plate) has gone. Remove the metal plate in front of the fan, and test with a multimeter to see if a current gets through it...

Hi i have bought the main fan (round element) part number SMG806890591 for ther smeg D081CSS-5 and would like to change it, is this possible from the front or do i have to take the whole unit out of the...

I found that with most you have to pull the oven out of it's housing to remove the screws and wireing. You then remove the cover from within the oven, pull out the element then rescrew from the rear. Hope this helps?

We have Smeg DUCO8CSS double electric oven. Bottom oven does not work, clock is blank and fan doesn't work. Top oven OK ! - though usually the fan runs when this is operating.

If the clock is blank, then the main oven will not work, as the clock timer is linked with the main oven.
You need to to get the clock working, or you will not be able to use the main oven
