Question about Xerox Phaser 8400 Laser Printer

1 Answer

I have a phaser 8400 banding problem. Actually reverse banding. It is ligher ink vertically along left margin and an inch from right margin. Is this a drum problem? It notes I am low on ink and have only printed 18k pages. Should the drum be worn at 18k? Please email me: sales@aaardvark.biz. Thanks, Kent

Nope its not a drum problem, That drum never goes bad. You are having a problem with some blocked jets in the print head.
You can scroll through your menu to troubleshooting and there are cleaning modes to eliminate light stripes and to eliminate smears.
Run the eliminate light stripes maybe 2 or 3 times. If that doesn't work, then try the jet substitution mode.
That is better described at Xerox.com, click support, then enter phaser 8400 in the search box, click support again and then enter
"jet" in that search and follow the directions.
If those do not work then your print head is most likely bad. Thats more likely if you have used non xerox ink sticks.Being low on ink should only give you a message that its low.

How do you fix error "07,010.43:14085" on the Xerox Phaser 8400

The error is normally caused by the print head wiper being stuck to the print head or the print head pivot block being contaminated with spill over ink.
To clean the block you remove the left side cover. There is a stainless steel block about 1 inch by 1 inch about midway back on the lower frame. It would most likely have a lot of yellow ink in it.
If the wiper blade is tacked to the print head, you would remove the right and left cover. then remove the ink loader. ( where you place the ink sticks.). Once you remove the ink loader you are in the print head drum area and would gently detack the blade from the print head, then run the eliminate light stripes in the troubleshooting menu.

I have phaser 8400 with 40k page count. I am getting a mark on page about 6 inches from top of page and 1/2 inch from left margin. Sometimes it is a faint blur 1/4 inch wide and 1 inch long. Other times...

Run Remove Ink Smears from the Troubleshooting menu. Try running the jetfix snippet found on Xerox website under downloads. It sounds like you may have a defective printhead telling it to spit out some magenta ink at the wrong time.

Xerox Phaser 8400 turns on then error 07,010.43:126070

Yeah it is a hardware issue. The code you are getting relates to the print head tilt and/or side to side movement.
One of 2 things occur to cause that code, these 2 things cause that code about 90 percent of the time.
1. When you remove the ( looking from the front of the machine as refrence) left cover, about 1/2 of the way back, on the bottom portion of the frame, you will see a 1 inch x 1 inch steel pivot block. Often times runoff from the excess tray or seepage down the print head will cause ink to build up in that block. That will not allow the print head to pivot back and forth properly causing that code. There is a spring over that block you need to clip aside to remove the block. It may be very sticky and a little difficult to remove. Channel locking pliers will normally allow you to remove it with some effort. I suggest putting the block in some pretty hot water . It makes the ink softer when hot and easier to remove.
You want to also picko ut all the excess ink in that are that you can to keep the block from gumming up again. Removing the print head is the best way to clean it, but that is pretty challenging if you donr know hte printer.
Now issue 2, is the print head wiper tacking to the print head. If the machine is not powered down properly or is unplug, or a power failure can cause this blade to be in the wrong position and stick to the print head. To access that, you want to remove the right and left covers, and also the ink loader, ( Where you load the ink sticks). It is held in by tabs and 2 plugs. Once you remove that ink loader you have access to the print head drum area. Look between the print head and drum for a pinkish colored blade, Gently detack it from the print head and run the cleaning cycle on the printer when reassambled.
The print wiper clutch could be going back causing the blade ot tack, but not as likely.
That code is definatly an issue with print head movement, and most of the time these 2 issues will resolve the problem.
Let me know, There are a couplf of other weird things that can cause this, But I doubt they are an issue.

Error after power-shutdown

That problem is comming from the print head not pivoting properly from the print to home position.
Most likely issue is a dirty print head block.
If you remove the left side cover, left side looking from the front. About mid way along the printer toward the bottom, there is a stainless steel block, about in inch square. There is a spring assembly around it. You can just pull that latch out and secure it up and to the left. The block most likely has ink built up in it, not allowing free movement of the print head. Clean that block well, soaking it in some hot water helps soften the ink.
That is the problem with that code 80 percent of the time.
Next is a cleaning blade tacked to the print head.
If that is the case, you have to remove both the right and left covers and the ink loader ( the assembly where you insert the ink sticks). If just is held in place with tabs on the side of the loader. Once you remove the loader you will see the print head, check to see if there is a pink blade between the drum and print head. that will happen if you had a power failure of the machine was not properly shut down.
3rd are the cables to the print head being to tight not allowing the head to move back and forth.
There are a couple of far less likely issues with that product. But I strongly suspect a dirty print head block

Phaser 8500,

The best way to remove it is to run a screw into the ink stick and slide it up as best you can.
You can also use a screwdriver and gently break it up and remove it.
Just be as careful as can be. That ink loader is actually pretty tough.

Error Code: 07,010.43:1944

You are doing nothing wrong.
That code means your print head is not moving into position properly, AKA to slow in pivoting back and forward.
Here are the problems in order of likelyhood.
1. The print head pivot block. When, from the front, you take the left side cover off, about half way back on the lower part of the frame there is a stainless steel block, about 1 inch by one inch square. Most of the time what happens is some ink has seeped into that block and the pivoting of the print head is very slow. What you want to do is remove the spring assembly over that block. It just pulls back and you latch it up and to the left. Remove that block and soak it in very hot water. That softens the contaminating ink for easier removal. Clean the block thoroughly and as best you can pick out the remaining ink surrounding it in the frame of the machine. Lightly lubricate the block with a silicon of very highly refidned oil. I stress lightly.
2. The cleaning blade has stuck to the print head. That normally is caused by not powering down the printer properly or a power failure shutting it down. For that, you have to remove the right and left side covers, and the ink loader,( where you put the ink sticks). That is just held in with pressure tabs. Remove the ink loader then look between the drum and print head, if the wiper is stuck there, gently pry it loose from the print head, and run 2 or 3 cleaning cycles.
3. While you would have the ink loader out, if the wiper isnt stuck, make sure one of the cables to the print head are not holding it back.
One of those 3 will resolve the problem. It is caused by the print head not being able to move freely.
