Question about Hitachi Computers & Internet
Go to this site
and download either the bootable diskette image or the bootable CD image to create a bootable floppy or CD. Will needed a working computer to do this on and a working floppy or CD drive on the faulty computer. Once the troubleshooting floppy or CD is made, load it into your faulty computer and reboot that computer. If the bios on the fault computer is set to allow booting first from floppy or CD, the troubleshooting routine will be loaded by the computer as it boots up.
If you are interested in saving any data, do not format your faulty drive and do not write ' 0 ' s to the drive in the troubleshooting routine.
These troubleshooting routines will only work for Hatachi drives of your model series, waste of time to try to use them on other manufacturers' drives.
It sounds like your drive has met it's maker, the clicking you mention is normally a ' dead ' giveaway, but it may be possible that the Hatachi troubleshooting routine can help in some fashion.
Best of luck, you will probably need it.
