Technics SU-G90 Amplifier from the late 80's. Unit will click off after a few minutes on. If left alone, unit sometimes clicks back on, with a loud "pop" from the speakers. Tapping the unit sometimes will bring it back on. Loose connection/solder joint bad??

Because bad connections, probably in the driver section of the endstage, dc current apears on the output and shuts down the output through the relay.

Does a technics stereo amp su-g90 have a stereo to play music

This device does not have an internal tuner. It is simply an amplifier. The buttons on the front labeled TUNER - TAPE - PHONO - DAT/VCR 1 - VCR 2/TV are selector buttons for additional components that hook up to the respective connectors at the rear of the unit. If you want to play a radio with this device, you must buy a tuner and attach it to the tuner inputs in the rear of the unit.

On my Technics SU-G90 where do I connect the subwoofer

Some amps have a single RCA socket for a powered sub. If it has not got one of these then the amp has no output for a powered sub. If so then you can only use a none powered subwoofer, which will connect via the speakers of the amp, see the subwoofer manual for how to do this.

How do i turn off the mute on a su-g90 with no remote

I don't know what a su-g90 is so this is a solution for most products that have a remote control. All competently designed electronics have an intelligent default or start up condition when first powered up. This means normal and most appropriate operation conditions will be in effect when you first plug it in. In your case the amplifier will be in normal operation (with no mute in effect). If you have had your amp powered up from the main power point - disconnect it for at least 5 minutes (so that it will forget its settings and reset itself) and then when you plug it back in or switch the power point on again - hopefully it will work normally. If it doesn't you might try to leave it unplugged for longer upto a day or so, and if this does not work - it is possible there is a battery back up to the device (or it runs on batteries) and a manual reset will need to be performed - this will usually be small hole in the side or underside of the item - and will be labeled reset, and a tooth pick or similar insulated pointy object is used to click the internal switch (usually a tact switch) - you would feel a click sensation.

More details of what the device is would be helpful!

Technics SU-G95 Amplifier and no sound on left speakers

Usually this is a defect in the output amp IC. If you have no experience with repairs of these types of units, have it checked by a service shop. If the output AMP IChas failed, it will cost about $75 for a replacement. This unit uses an RSN3306P IC .

My su g90 shuts off when i turn it up loud what do

Amplifiers get hot. The more you crank the volume up (or use extended for extended periods), the more current is required. When it gets hot, there is a fan motor (on the back), that should turn on. I believe your fan motor (brush) is worn out and therefore non-functional. Under this condition when the system overheats, it automatically changes mode to protect circuits.

Also note: if it works when you initially turn it on (cold) for a few minutes it should work fine...until it starts getting hot inside the case.

Speakers cut out.

"Tapping on the unit" is the salient point that prevented me from thinking that it was a speaker impedance issue. That would indicate a solder connection problem. Unless you are qualified to work at the component level I would take your unit to someone who is as it may destroy the amplifier eventually. Steve Medley
