We have a Canon ImageRunner 5000 which has a stapler option.
This printer support PCL 5e
We need to programatically turn on the staple feature.
With an HP4200 we used a PJL printer command sent to the printer. @PJL SET PROCESSINGTYPE="STAPLING"
@PJL SET PROCESSINGOPTION="ONE_STAPLE"
@PJL SET PROCESSINGBOUNDARY=MOPY
But this same string does not work for the Canon Printer.
Do you know what I need to send to the printer to staple or where this may be documented

first open upper front cover.
then pull handle on left corner of front side, the sorter unit will come out. see behind side of sorter unit u'll find a small green handle to detach the staples cartridge, replace the staples cartridge and insert unit into stapler. push back sorter unit an close the upper front door. end
Take a can of can air after you have removed the staples cartridge and blow out the socket that the staples fir into. Sometimes a jammed staple can stick in there and cause problems. Also if you can remove the bottom blade of staples out of the staple cartridge. Just raise that piece with the green on it and carefully remove just one blade.
If that does not work you most likely need a new stapler assembly and they could cost 2-$300. retail. If its under contract with a dealer this should be replaced for free.
You go to you printer properties(you will find it if you right click on the printer driver under printers and faxes in the controll panel),select printing prefrences,page setup,there is a option for landscape printing.Next to page setup is the finnisher settings,select the stapler option.
What type of driver are you using? Postscript or PCL? Are you printing over TCIP port or a direct connection like a USB? Are there any updates for the Imagerunner since you bought it? They release updates like microsoft releases updates. Also what type of operating system do you have?
