Fixing the LCD screen on the laptop is a lot harder.
If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-
The back light is the whole of the screen, the screen is illuminated by a CCFL lamp (fluro tube) on the bottom of the screen. A inverter supplies high voltage to this CCFL lamp. If

the screen maybe the issue where you have to replace the LCD panel.. to verify intergrity of the LCD screen operation of this Dell , plug an extrenal monitor to the back of the Dell notebook. If you can view everything clearly on the externalk monitor , then i am sorry to say the LCD panel of the dell notebook must be replaced with new one.
I have a Everex StepNote Laptop VA4101M. Model Number VA250W. I can turn the power on the laptop but the screen is black. I have already try taking the battery out and the power cord out and nothing.WHAT DO I DO?!?
it sounds like a short in the internal wire that connects the monitor to the base of the laptop. my mum has the same problem, minus the virus.....and she bought it with vista on it. so i could be wrong. it could just be a vista problem, i've never heard of it associated with any other microsoft/windows operating program
Is this a brand new computer? Was it displaying properly before and just suddenly started showing up dark?
Most laptop monitors have a brightness control. It is possible that yours may have been inadvertently turned all the way down (it can happen accidentally). It is usually accessed by a function selector on the lower left side of the keyboard in conjunction with a function key, like F7, F8, F9, etc... you should check your manual first to be sure.
If that doesn't help, then it is possible the backlight for the LCD screen has gone dead. Those can be replaced by authorized service centers.
ALL depends on what part of your screen went...
What Symptoms did you see before the screen went ... if any..... (like Lines, Colors, Blank screen with light, black screen with No light, etc...)
Can You Plug An External Monitor In the Laptop To See If You Get External Video????
Do You Get A Backlight?? If Not, Do You Have A Display going but no light???
Or Is It Just Black Like it has no power to it... if the latter is true, you really need to connect it to an external video source to see if your video card / chip is shot..
Yes the external monitor plug should work. once you plug a monitor into it you have to press the Function and I believe is it F5 key. Not looking at the keyboard right now. Which ever "F" key that has the two monitors beside it.
