    Hi,
do you see the power LED on when you start the system

if the power led is in do you see any thing on the screen or it is blank always not for even a second you see any thing.

if you see windows logo at computer start and then it goes blank it might be a driver problem.

Screen is black

If you're getting just a flashing cursor on a black screen it's probably a motherboard/video card/hard disk problem (probably motherboard).

If there's not even a flashing cursor - just a black screen - you can add a failed power unit to your list of problems.

The easiest way to check is to borrow a power unit and video card from a friend's computer. There's no need to remove your existing power unit. Simply disconnect the power cables from the motherboard and connect the spare power unit in its place.

If your computer powers up it is obviously a faulty power unit to blame. IIf there's still nothing on the screen, power down the computer and replace the video card with the spare one. If there's still nothing on the screen when you power it up then in all probability your motherboard is history

Toshiba laptop pas409e-d screen is black

Step 1:
WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Causes a Computer Monitor to Go Blank b> While a blank screen may be caused by a general power outage, more often it's a problem with the screen itself. It could be a loose video or power cable going to the monitor. If that's the case, you can get the screen working again and be back in business in a few minutes. b> Power Problems All the power might be off due to a bad outlet, switch, fuse, or circuit breaker. If you hear no sound coming from the computer and its power light is off, check the power connection and breaker or fuse. Video Cable Many times the cause of monitor blackouts is a loose video cable connection. This might happen if you move the monitor or the cable. The video cable runs from the back of the computer to the monitor. It has a multi-pin connector on each end and both of them screw down securely. If the screws aren't tight, either connector could become loose. If that happens, the video signal could stop suddenly and make the picture go blank. Check both ends of the connector to make sure they're firmly seated and the screws are tight. The cable itself might be bad. This is unlikely, but possible. b> Display Power The monitor must have power. If the power light isn't lit on the monitor, it may have been turned off or become unplugged. Press the power button to make sure it wasn't accidentally turned off. Make sure the monitor is plugged in. If it's connected to a power strip, check that the power strip is on. If that checks out, unplug the monitor and try a different outlet. Power strip sockets can sometimes fail. Flat-screen monitors may have a power-brick-style adapter. It, too, has connectors. Follow the power cable from the monitor's power plug back to the monitor. About halfway up you'll find a thick rectangular plastic brick. The power goes into a modular-style equipment socket. This can become loose. Follow the wire the rest of the way to the monitor. It connects to the back of the screen with a small round plug. Check that it's firmly plugged in. If everything's plugged in right and the power light on the monitor's still off, the power brick might be bad. b> Video Card Some computers have a separate video card inside. It may come loose and cause a blank screen. If this is the case, open the computer and inspect the video card. Sometimes removing and reseating the card will fix the problem. If it has to be replaced, most video cards are not expensive.

15 inch lcd monitor Benq Model Q5T3 has a blank screen has power but screen just black. Can let it sit for a while and sometimes it will stay on for a few minutes but goes black again Thanks

It could either be a driver issue on your system, or a problem with your video card. Turn off the computer, open the case, remove the video card, re-seat it in the slot securely, close up the system and power it back on. If the problem still happens, update the display adapter driver, if it still happens, try a different video card or monitor. You could even test your monitor by plugging it into a system that you know doesn't have this issue.

Power indicater light is orange instead of green and computer screen is black

This usually indicates no signal from the video card. If this happens at boot and no POST screen display is seen, try checking the connections between the monitor and the video card, there may be a loose cable. Inspect the ends of the cable for bent or damaged pins. Or try swapping the connection cable.

If this is happening after the post screen, then you have a video driver problem, which can be resolved by booting into safe mode, uninstalling your video card drivers and restarting into normal mode.

Hope this helps,
Gill

-Orange light on Power-up button stays lit. -No Video, just black screen. using AGP Video card TNT 32mb / Model CT5823 I've replaced the battery, double checked the cables, Power supply is good. Gatew

This is typical of a failed power supply. Look on the back of the power supply, there may be a red switch for input voltage. Unplug the power cord, flip that switch a few times and then plug the cable in and try again. If nothing changes, see if there's a small black button on the back of the power supply. If there is, unplug the power cable and press the button and hold it for 10-15 seconds. If an LED flashes or turns on, then plug the cable back in and try again. If this all fails, replace the power supply.

Graphics card won't work on computer

I cant be sure since I can't see the error during bootup. But its highly possible that you forgot to plug in a extra power cord that goes into the video card. at the upper corner of the video card. you will see a black plug with 4 pins on it that needs a power source. You have that from your power supply that normally people use it for a floppy drive. Plug that in here and that should work. If it still doesn't, give me the exact error during bootup and I'll help you from there.

Compaq V5005us is weird. Powers on with black screen and freezes

It sounds like your Video card and/or motherboard are starting to give out or your LCD is giving way. Try plugging the laptop into an external screen and see if it still acts strangely or even displays on the external monitor.

Monitor comes on but wont show picture

You should make sure the cable is plugged into the video port on the back of the tower. Also, if you have more than one video card, ie an "onboard card" and another card that was added later, try alternating one to the other and see if the other one works. You can identify video ports by finding the blue pentagonal plug. It also will be the only plug that your monitor cable fits into (that is describing a VGA cable, a white cable is a DVI cable and is even easier to identify.) You might also want to make sure the video card wasnt jostled out of place. The final solution could be you have developed some bad memory modules, or the memory was jostled out of its slot during the move.
