The AF illuminator allows the auto focus system to focus on dark subjects. When the shutter button is pressed half way, the AF illuminator will light up the subject. The default setting is “ON.”

The autofocus system in your camera needs some light in order to be able to see the subject on which to focus. In dim light the camera will light up the illuminator to shed additional light on the subject.

Each time I press the shutter button to take a picture the flash keeps flashing fast on and off 3 bursts of about 10 flashed then it takes a pic ??? help

The built-in flash can function as an autofocus illuminator. This helps with focusing in low-light conditions in the AF mode.
To disable this function, press the menu button, then select service1 menuitem, then AF illuminat., and finally, select OFF.

Help with red flash?????

Do you mean, the AF Illuminator (the bright orange/red light that appears before the picture is taken)?? If so, all have to do is click on menu, scroll all the way to the right (into the setup menu) and go to the camera icon. From there, go down to the AF Illuminator and switch it from "Auto" to "Off".

Hope that resolves your problem!!

No, it is not. But the camera can automatically balance the CCD sensitivity to enable autofocus even in low-light condition.
