Problem with singer prelude sewing machine!

I have a singer prelude sewing machine that has not been used yet. Every time i begin to sew, the machine sews a few stitches, then stops. the material gets sucked down below and the thread bunches up behind it. Sometimes the needle gets stuck and won't come up unless I remove the bobbin. I tried resetting the upper tension and that of the bobbin casket. same problem. Sometimes it looks as though the upper thread is wrapping around the bobbin case. what can I do to fix this? thanks

I have owned the mega quilter for quite a few years. It has recently begun to not sew although the motor is running fine. It will sew part of a line (sometimes the beginning - others it begins in the middle of the seam) I'm using it as my sewing machine as I love the thread cutter. I had it serviced and this problem was to be solved, but NOT !!!! Help ! I love to use this machine

Firstly make sure when you thread the machine you have the sewing foot in the up position or the thread will not sit in the tension and cause this problem. Also as it is a new machine it may have a small amount of oil from transport stopping the tension discs from separating. Try sliding the folded edge of a piece of fabric with the foot up through the tension unit it may clear the oil away.

Needle will not pick up bobbin thread

Try installing a brand new needle. Rethread the machine from the very beginning. The machine could be out of time, ie the needle and hook timing do not match.
