IESP is the default auto focus setting for the C-5060 Wide Zoom camera. It uses a contrast detecting system, to analyze the entire image by comparing the subject against the background to achieve focus. When the shutter button is pressed half way on the C-5060 Wide Zoom, the AF target zone automatically moves the to an area of the image where it finds the optimal contrast.

Lens will not auto focus with flash up

Not sure of you camera model, but the flash will fire momentarily when you try to focus indoors as there is not enough light for the auto focus to work. This is so the camera can determine a distance from the subject to the camera. This is called focus assist (ref to your manual). It will work outdoors as there is enough light and contrast for the focus to work.

Kit lenses included with the camera are notoriously known not to focus well in dark conditions.

Auto Focus not working

It depends on how long you have owned the camera, but I find it doubtful that it would be waring out. Sometimes after messing with the auto focus buttons my camera no longer focuses on its own, I then reset the settings and re-select auto focus. This always fixes my problem. I hope you find a solution. God bless...

Nikon D40X stopped auto-focusing yesterday

I had the same problem. My issue was with all my lenses. I solved it by going to the menu and selecting the custom setting menu (pencil icon). Then from the right menu select the AE-L/AF-L and press OK. Then make sure it is set on AE/AF Lock. Presto...all my lenses worked on auto-focus.

Focus and blurred pictures

Blurry no flash indicated photos in low light condition therefore slow exposure leading to camera shake remedy - use a tripod

Burn out with flash in foreground is not uncommon if you are focusing to distant object - the flash is calculating for max throw..

Switching from auto to manual focus

AF/MF (Auto Focus/Manual Focus) * The AF/MF function works in CAMERA, M.REC mode only. * In most situations, it is better to use the automatic focus feature, as it enables you to concentrate on the creative side of your recording. * Manual focusing may be necessary under certain conditions that make automatic focusing difficult and/or unreliable. Auto Focusing * If you are inexperienced in the use of camcorders, we recommend that you make use of Auto Focus. Manual Focusing In the following situations, you may obtain better results by adjusting the focus manually: * A picture containing several objects, some close to the camcorder, others further away. * A person enveloped in fog or surrounded by snow. * Very shiny or glossy surfaces like a car. * People or objects moving constantly or quickly like an athlete or a crowd. Follow These Simple Steps To Set The Manual Focus 1. Set the power switch to CAMERA mode. 2. Turn the MENU DIAL up or down until the FOCUS is highlighted and then press the ENTER button. M. FOCUS(MF) will display. 3. Turn the MENU DIAL up or down until the object is in focus. Zoom out a little if focusing is difficult. 4. To return to AF (Auto Focus: ), press the ENTER button again.
