I just started working at a school this morning. They unplug the fax machine for the summer as no one is in the office. I came in and plugged it in. Have waited all day for a fax the machine does not receive or send. It is hooked up correctly as far as I know. Any ideas?? School starts tomorrow and am waiting for records

See that top on which to place paper faxing is a green button should be positioned (to the right or left) in position with several sheets drawn as an indicator. I guess yours is positioned on a single paper which means it does not separate anything you ask. Good luck to configuration
The service error refers to an hardware issue with the printer.. U can try the following step,if this didnt resolve the issue only option is servicing.
1. Unplug printer.
2. Press and hold SYMBOLS & ENTER/MENU.
3. Continue to hold down the buttons while you plug back in the printer, through the entire
4. When display reads PERMANENT STORAGE INITIALIZE or HP LASERJET 3200
release the buttons.
I just bought a used hp 3200se and am trying to use it as a stand alone fax. It (so far) does not answer incoming calls. I found that I can manually answer a fax call and then the machine seems to work fine. I tried connecting to ...oh, by the way, I have digital phone service from Comcast, an analog line and it seems to work fine. So maybe the 6310xi is the same or maybe there are setting to deal with a digital line. Maybe something in this will help.
The fax machine needs to be reset. Simply shut off the machine, wait one minute, and turn on machine & fax. If turning off the machine does not clear your machine then you have to unplug the machine & follow the same procedures. Worked for me.
