Duet Dryer (GEW9200LW) Control Panel doesn't work (all the time)
I have a 3 yr. old Duet dryer. Recently the control panel has been working less than 5% of the time. The inside drum light always works. The control panel, hoever, seems to have a mind of it's own. Most of the time it won't work but, every once in awhile it'll somehow allow us to dry a load. However the next time we try it won't work. Do i replace the contol electronics? the user interface? will this problem keep happening after another 2yrs. or so? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Whirlpool makes their control lock very confusing. Often times, people will look on the control panel and the control lock light will go on and they can not figure out how to unlock the control panel. They will try pressing and holding the cancel button and unplugging the washer or dryer to reset it. None of these options work. All you need to do is press and hold the end of cycle button for 3 seconds and the control panel will unlock. If that doesn't unlock your controls, then unfortunately your interface control board is just shorted and will need to be ordered and replaced to fix the issue.
See if you can get into the diagnostic mode. If not, you will need to replace the "user interface" on the machine. Here is a link to the part if you should need it.
ACTIVATING THE DIAGNOSTIC
1. Make sure that the dryer is in the "Standby"
mode (plugged in and all of the indicators
2. Press the following control panel keypad
sequence all within 5 seconds:
More Time-Less Time-More Time-
3. All indicators on the console should now
be illuminated with "88" showing in
the "Estimated Time Remaining" display,
if this test mode has been entered successfully.
Thanks for using FixYa. To reset the dryer you’ll need to press and hold the END OF CYCLE button for 10-15 seconds. If still the issue is not resolved then unfortunately you'll have to replace the control panel. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.
This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:
Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.
These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.
NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.
If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.
