At first the blackness problem could be cured by switching on and off very fast.  Now nothing works.  The LCD is black; all icons work, so do other camera functions.

same here. I can view old pictures but cant take new all i get is a black screen

Same problem, just called Canon and it would cost 100$ to repair. I am pissed, and I seriously think a camera of that price should last more than 2 years. Of course, the warranty is out, and now the only option left is to pay. No way I will pay 100$ to be stuck with that camera. I prefer to buy a new one... it's a shame..

Brand new Energizer Lithium batteries and still same problem. Does anyone know what the actual cause of the problem is?

I had the same problem - at first a power off and back on would allow me to take pictures, but now I can remove batteries, put new ones in, turn on and off, change settings and I get a blank lcd screen (still has menu icons) and black pictures. What's weird is it TAKES the black picture. I'm guessing aperture? I'm not a pro, though, and wonder if it's a part I could order and try replacing myself?

Same issue. Camera was never dropped nor abused. Just went blank. Called local Camera store and was told it would be better just to buy a new one rather than pay to have this on fixed.

I had the very same problem. Got it fixed (had insurance through my credit card) and now it is doing the exact same thing! Very frustrating!

i have the same problem lcd screen is black cannot see any thing on the lcd screen

  • petefordham Feb 17, 2009

CCD failure Im afraid you need a new optical unit and Canon will not take resposibility for this models failure.

21/2 yeras old - three sets of holiday snaps and then failure and uneconomical to repair £140 plus.

Great camera when it worked **** customer care from Canon.

This is strange. Cannon, a premium name in cameras, selling a defective product that apparently is rampant for this model. I am experiencing EXACTLY the same problem. Our A620, which has been a great camera for three years, recently just stopped taking pictures. LCD screen is black in camera mode. The camera "takes" pictures that are completely black. Can review our old pictures and see the other settings on the screen fine, but the background is completely black when you switch to "camera" mode. Is there really nothing that can be done?

Hi Guys, My A620 is almost out of warranty :-{ and the lcd went blank. Could still take pictures and view them, just couldn't see them on the lcd screen. After looking through all of these trouble shooting pages, someone on another page suggested to reset settings, manual pg 28. Or on the camera switch on, Menu, go into tools scroll down till you reach rest all and ok. Doesn't clear pics already on there, and mine now works fine :-) phew. Good luck xx

I was having the same problem until just now. I tweaked the lens collar gently back and worth a couple of times and the display came back to life. Perhaps there's a sensor there that needed petting.

A620 friends: An idea - doesn't the screen usually go black when the batteries are very low? Could it be that this black screen problem has something to do with the battery connection -perhaps dirty, or a lose wire inside, or loose soldering? Just a thought.Linda k

Insignia LCD TV screen goes black until hit.

Try to follow the inverter to backlight connections---either a loose or damaged plug (look for any plug with tape on it at the plug first) or on the board that powers the lights a bad solder connection or connections where plugs connect.

My screen has gone white?

The display being white can be due to failure of the LCD or the CCD which is the optical sensor of the camera. So to confirm check the older picture to be seen on the display. Confirm this by checking the card on your PC. If the images/picture is seen to be of good quality, then the LCD can be faulty, fault on the linking cable or the control board.

However if the older images are seen well then the LCD is working correctly and the fault can be failure of the CCD- charge coupled device in the camera. If you have accidently exposed the camera directly to high intensity light / sunlight, then it is possible that it is damaged. Remove the battery and keep the camera aside to reset and try as a last resort. Get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the authorised service as you do not have to run around for spares.

Everything on my lcd screen shows up brown

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

Are the pictures only showing brown in the camera lcd, when you transfer to you PC they are correctis yes, then your camera is faulty. It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

I had my camera for a couple of years and the lcd screen went black, i can't take new pictures anymore.

If the screen goes black, you can still take pictures. There is no way to fix the black screen, it just blew out.

Shooting mode shows nothing.

I just had this issue with my camera (my 15 year old son solved it for me ;-) ).

The viewfinder was active in "record" mode and the LCD was "active" because you could see a little back light but no image. The "playback" mode would let me review pictures in the LCD though so I know it is capable of showing information.

If you push the display key/button a couple of times you can see the picture move from the viewfinder to the LCD and have just a picture and or a picture and information.

So try setting the camera to "record" mode (lens comes out) and then push the "display button" which is on the back of the camera just to the right of the LCD on the lower right side several times and see if the LCD starts to work.

It could be that somehow the display button was pushed by mistake.

Kodak CX7330. turns on but LCD screen is black and won't take a pic

It sounds like a bad connection on the ribbon cable of the LCD screen to the camera's motherboard. The fact that when you physically move the camera around and you can get the screen to then work, tells me something is loose inside.

Good luck!
