Sounds to me as if you have air trapped inside the system. If you have steam traps they may not be working. You probably need to call a tech to look boiler traps can sometimes be complicated, and steam if not controlled right can be very dangerous.

Taps get hot water the rads dont

The Tap water comes from a Domestic water heater. The radiators are heated from a separate source, usually a boiler of some kind. Follow the piping back to that source and see if it is heating. Next, if it has a pump it should be running. Last, look for air bleed ports on each radiator and bleed out any air in them. If nothing comes out when bleeding, air or water, look around the boiler for a water valve and add water till all the radiators are full. If you need more information, write back and try to be more specific. thank you for asking. Please grade the amount of help this has covered. Thanks again. Roger

Ferroli optimax he 31c. brand new system will only heat 3 of 8 rads. boiler on 90c will only burn for 15sec then D2 shows and it cuts out. Why??

it is either your pump is not running or blocked [ debris from installation ect ] or your diverter valve is stuck partially open allowing a little water to pass into the heating system [ usually first rads on system ] it runs for a short while and cuts out because your overheat stat is kicking in because of poor circulation [ it is only running around the primarys in the boiler where it quickly reaches the over heat limit ] temp tends to rise approx 1 deg per second a clear indication of circulation problems.

I have just tried to run my ferroli optimax 31c boiler. The boiler fires up, but then displays a d2 message and the radiators do not heat up. Any ideas what causes this problem and how I can solve it...

D2 is not a fault what that means is delay and 2 refers to CH which means the boiler has gone into standby mode. you need to check that your CH circut is open, there is a filter on the return valve into boiler make sure this is not blocked. If this is blocked the water is just going though the boiler by-pass so then the boiler thinks its up to temp. hope this helps

3 out of 7 rads working with hot water

This is a flow problem within the system and you have ruled out the two major problems already.
asuming the pump has been fitted in the correct way round and the pump isolation valves are open fully. have you tried closing down the radiator valves upstairs and forcing the flow around the downstairs circuit? also is there any zone valves on the circuit not opening.
Is it a conventional type system with a header tank ?

Vaillant boiler (VCW GB 221) not heating up water or heating although the pilot is lit. Pump is heard working okay but there is small drips of water underneath boiler. Any idea's?

The movement of the diverter valve is critical on this appliance, and is located on rear right of the boiler, when hot water is turned on, theres are two microswitches, which must break (they both close in Central heating mode), if pump is running, it is recognising the hot water demand, check microswitches are breaking, if not, it tends to be a defective servo valve (located above the water valve), or a blocked/ restricted control line (small copper tubes which connect into the servo valve)

Boiler unit

In a hydronic system for heating you must insure that the pressure on the boiler is maintained during the process of bleeding off the air from the system. There is a regulator for the water make-up to the system which normally maintains 12 PSI with the boiler cold. If this is stuck or fails to open you will loose the pressure on the system when bleeding the air off. Most are adjustable. Loosen lock nut on the adjustment stem and turn the screw (clockwise) to increase the pressure. Count the turns as you adjust it and return it to the original setting when you finsh bleeding off the air.

My heating system is a Heat Line Compact gas boiler. When i turn on the boiler to heat the rads the pressure guage goes up to 5 and water comes out of the overflow pipe. Can you tell me what the problem...

Yes, your pressure is too high or your expansion tank is bad or the relief valve is bad. The water is expanding when heated and no place to expand too. I suspect the expansion tank. If you can get to it, tap it with a tip of a screw driver. It should sound hollow.

Gas Boiler will supply /fire up to supply Central heating When Room thermastat turned up and switched to Heating and Hot water. When on Hot water Only will not fire up even though thermostat on hot water...

most likly or a shorted wire unhook the wire from the boiler see if it stops then if it's still is on it's in the boiler if off try unhooking it at the t-stat on the heater this should narrow it down for you dan
