Using a cell phone, call your fax machine to see if the fax answers. If it does answer, then hang up the cell phone and fax. Next, using the HOOK button on your fax, call your cell phone . The cell phone should ring and answer the phone call from the fax. If you do not get a connection between the fax and cell, try these: Check that the phone line to the fax is plugged into the LINE jack on the fax, NOT THE PHONE jack. The PHONE jack on the fax is to plug in a TELEPHONE ONLY. If the fax phone line is OK, go into your fax machines' RECEIVE and SEND settings and make sure they are set up properly (pulse or tone dialing, overseas mode, etc.) Print out the HELP LIST as follows: Press MENU button, then 5 on keyboard, then 1 on keyboard. Go through all the settings on the HELP LIST that apply to your problem. (Send and Receive modes, Ring Delay, Receive Options, etc.) Write down the original settings BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANY OF THEM.

When I fax anything is taking long time to sent it and give me confirmation. When finally it print the confirmation, is saying Busy/No response, no matter what fax number I fax to.

Go to the brother site and download any updated firmware for your All-in-one
http://www.brother-usa.com/downloads/default.aspx?PGID=5
Also, check the telephone line for any noise and try changing the FAX QUALITY SETTING to a lower setting.

Brother mfc-420cn - fx problem

From the manual for your Brother model: To select or change your Receive mode 1. If it is not illuminated in green, press "Fax" (picture of Fax button) 2. Press - "Menu/Set, 0, 1." 3. Press - (up arrow) or (down arrow) to select "Fax Only". 4. Press - "Stop/Exit." This is just to select the "Fax Only" option, which is what you need - having a phone line strictly for the fax machine. There are 4 options on that setting, and the manual explains them in more detail. You can also set the "Ring Delay" for the fax by pressing "Menu/Set, 2, 1, 1." The options shown are "0, 1, 2, 3, or 4". It's very likely that you want to select an option OTHER than "0". This Brother manual for your model can be found at this URL: --> http://www.retrevo.com/search/fv/1d4caef84f3754461d7ce187341b923c.pdf#page=1 Hope this helps! Fax is always busy when sending, have the line into the phone line port and into the telephone jack, fax scans and dials and even redials but it never go through, prints out receipt that says busy/no...

Has it always done this, or did Fax once work? Sadly, Windows XP Fax has many shortcomings, not the least of which is that it won't work with many modems still in common use. Modem incompatibility is not apparent during installation or the initial setup. It only becomes apparent when you try to send or receive a fax. The Fax Service will dial or will answer an incoming fax but then fail with any of a number of unhelpful error messages such as "Line is busy," "There is no answer," or "Reception error." There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where the problem might lie.

These errors have been nearly impossible to track down. To do so requires enabling both PSS and debug logging of fax transmissions, both of which require fairly extensive registry changes. For the time being, the best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and using the latest drivers.

Hope helps.

No dial tone when pressing hook fax is returned

The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another wire or jack

No Dial tone for fax

Did you choose the right input for fax? Or did you connect to the phone line in at the mfc? Did you choose the right settings? See handbook for that.
