How long is it warrantied for ?

    I purchased a 50V500 in October 2004. The 'Red Glow' started appearing a year and a half later and covered the entire screen by the time I got the light engine replaced in November 2006. Hitachi paid for the part. I had to pay for the labor. The 'Blue Haze" started appearing about 3 months ago and now it covers half the screen. The guy who installed my 2nd light engine says he's certain it's the light engine again. I called Hitachi and they said the part is only warranted for 90 days. Rebuilts are $600 and new are $1200. I won't give up until they pay for another light engine.

About two years ago, I had a small red blur in the middle of the screen. That red blur is now all over my screen. I called Hitachi and they said that there's nothing they can do about it because it's almost 4 years old and the warranty has expired. I called a repair shop and they said that it may be a light engine problem and it will cost about $1300 to repair. Might as well get a new TV for that. I did some research and found out that this is a common problem and that you need to be persisting when calling Hitachi and speak to a supervisor. The supervisor said that if a repair person confirms that it's a light engine problem, that they will send the part FREE OF CHARGE (just gotta pay for labor). They will only send a replacement once.

You can edit this letter however you wish....just bear me out....I no longer have a light engine problem Ron Johnson solved my problem...I was now asking how long is the warranty for the new light engine?

Have a green tint over 90% ot the center of the screen


I had the same problem with my 60V500A about a year ago. The screen got a red tint in the center and the image was fuzzy in that area. A new lamp didn't solve the problem. I did some checking and found out that the original light engine used in this model had a cooling issue that could cause the light engine to overheat and distort the LCD panels. My warranty had run out more than a year before this happened so I figured I was screwed since the light engine was so expensive. I decided to call Hitachi tech support and see if I could get a discount on the cost of a new light engine since the cooling problem was a known issue for this model TV. I calmly explained to them that I was aware of the cooling issue in the light engine and that I felt like a $4000 TV should last more than two or three years. Tech support gave me the phone number for my local authorized Hitachi service center and I gave them a call. Once the technician confirmed that it was the light engine that was the problem Hitachi sent him a replacement light engine at no cost to me. I was WAY past my warranty period so I still had to pay for the labor to replace the light engine. $300 for labor was a lot cheaper than buying a new light engine or tossing the TV and buying a new one. I have to say that Hitachi earned my respect for admitting there was a problem and doing what was needed to correct the problem more than a year after my warranty had expired.

You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

Here is the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty, all you pay is the install. Our install cost $400. Others on this site have paid $200. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for the light engine part...you do not. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi customer realations number that I listed. Good Luck

Blue spot


If you've done an I2c reset then your problem is most likely the light engine. Actually the lcd panel inside the engine but the procedure is still the same - replacement of the LE..

Color problems


You have a defective light engine and Hitachi will replace the part. Here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. At first, they will act like they've not heard about this problem but they will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to have come out and take a look. Once the tech comes out and confirms that it's a defective light engine, call Hitachi back at the same 800# and they will send a brand new light engine directly to the dealer and Hitachi will pay for it ($1500).

Here's the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty they will cover the expensive part but not the install. Our install was $400 but other on this site have paid around $200. Please do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for this part. Hitachi has not recalled the part but they are replacing it with a brand new light engine for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi's customer realtions and not regular customer service. Good Luck!

No blue


Make sure your blue component cable is connected...this is the most common cause for complete loss of blue. If this does not fix it you are looking at having to get a new light engine for this tv. Sorry. Make sure it is not your source first...dvd..cable..etc
